    Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me. I have a Grewaco 7 jewels watch. It was my Grandfathers. I have tried to repair it in three different watch centres. But none could get it right. Trying to repair it for five years now.

Is there any expert top of the range watch repairer that could help me. The problem with the watch is its running far to fast. I could set it at 12:00 fully wound. By 1 O'Clock, the watch would read 5 past 1!

    You couldnt rely on it.

I would love to get it sorted. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Sounds like it could be a hairspring issue? Im surprised no one so far could fix it, but then again I get tired complaining about the lack of good watchmakers in Ireland. Very few could be trusted to do balance work IMHO. Ive had experience of this. No names no pack drill... Much worse if you've a vintage watch. The usual BS about they're not repairable comes out. Utter pish BTW. They're arguably easier to repair. Then of course the prices they charge.

Others here have mentioned watchmakers they rely upon. hopefully they'll chime in. I'm sorry to say I cant help you though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Well I appreciate the repsonse anyway. Well the first guy i went to had it for two years. He said He couldnt spend all his time trying to fix my watch so he gave an hour a week to it. I really just want to get it going right. Its not a valuable watch id imagine, but it was given to me as a 21st present, hasnt worked since.

Two years? That's a bit mad Ted. Obviously way out of his comfort zone to fix then. It still sounds like balance work IMHO. Either the balance wheel itself out of whack or the hair spring. The hair spring should be straight forward enough to replace. If it was more specific balance work maybe someone with more expertise is needed. TBH I wouldnt trust balance work of that nature to the usual suspects in Dublin anyway. Wish I know who to go to as Ive an old watch myself that I suspect needs same.

As for value, well they seem to be an old enough maker http://www.grewaco.ch/old_watch_factory_grewaco.htm In any case the value lays with your grandfather connection.

I have attached a pic of the watch. Id happily go international if i could get it fixed once and for all.

As for value, purely sentimental. I would never part with it. Working or not.

I have a good repair guy in Dublin city centre that knows what he is doing, so good in fact that he does warranty work for some of the highstreet swiss firms. He is doing an vintage Certina DS2 at the moment for me.

I will happily pass on contact details to anyone who PM's me.

I only know of 2 repairers in Dublin and one of those charges big money so I stick with my chap.
