This is a wonderful, if disquieting and uncomfortable film to experience. Shane Meadows has such a way with giving his films a certain earthy quality. I fully recommend this to those who seem intrigued by the trailer.

Great film Kevin. I'm always intrigued by the concept of an antihero looking for some justice. You can't say much without spoiling, but it really turns you on your head. Love it.

Also, I picked this up about a year ago in HMV for under a tenner, if anyone's looking.

I like the moral ambiguity of it, which is far more interesting than the polarised way of things as most films would have. I actually picked this up with Hunger in HMV as part of their "2 for €12" during the week.

I didn't like it too much. Thought it tried to be clever and go for 'gritty realism', but that it didn't manage the desired effects. It was a bit slow, slightly tedious.

I liked Paddy Considine as the angry brother though. There was something engaging about his performance. And the film was something different.

My favourite from Meadows. After this I'd have This is England, A Room... and then Somers Town.

One of the better director's out there. Pity his latest one (Le Donk) was a pile of ****.

Last I saw of his was Somers Town; uplifting, enjoyable film. Turgoose undoubtedly has a career ahead of him.

He's in some new film coming out soon - saw a trailer for it the other day in the IFI.

All shanes films have a real gritty, kitchen sink style to them but as you say hes latest is disappointing but i put put dead mans shoes up there with, this is england, room for romeo brass and twentyfourseven .As for Paddy Considine , he is a top actor and perfect for the roles he plays in these films

Have a soft spot for this film. Considine is excellent in it.

What let the film down for me a bit is the fact I know Gary Stretch, and found it hard to buy into his screen persona after having grown up on Merseyside around him and having boxed at the same ABC as him. It just made it too difficult for me to suspend my belief whilst watching the bits when he is own screen.

The good bit was getting to meet Paddy Considine through Gary.

I saw this last night and thought it was fantastic but the ending took the gloss off it for me somewhat.
I didn't like the fact that the brother asked to be stabbed at the end and started talking about how he had now turned into a beast. I felt that this was spoon-feeding the audience with moral issues which we could have done without and could have figured out anyway.

I would have preferred if he had just had a gun with him and turned it on himself. I didn't see what having the chap stab him accomplished.

Even so, a great film and I would recommend it.
