Laptop and itunes

Forgive me if I'm being a bit simplistic here but I'm not great at this stuff but here goes anyway.

I recently bought a laptop and my wife wanted to put all her itunes stuff onto the laptop from the PC at home. I've plugged the ipod into the usb port to try and put everything onto the laptop. However it says that the laptop is not authorised to perform that operation. So i tried to give the laptop authorisation but when i do it says that i cannot connect to the itunes store.

Is there a simple solution to this problem?

You can do it by turning the ipod into disc mode etc but if you're after the less techy way:
    • Install itunes on new computer
    • Install ipod software on new computer
    • (DONT PLUG IPOD IN YET OR IT WILL WIPE!)
    • Use USB key or external drive to transfer songs from old computer to new (ie copy from the folder mymusic>itunes>itunesmusic etc into the same folder on new laptop.
    • Sync the ipod with itunes only when all your music appears in itunes!
