Americas wars

I just wonder how do people in America benefit from American troops waging war in Iraq and Afghanistan? How is it beneficial for average tax payers that America pays lots of money to private mercenaries who then go on a drunken rampage and shoots Afghani civilians?

Hows is it beneficial for the American taxpayer that American soldiers torture people in Iraq?

Why does America need to spend all this money on warfare? America is running record deficits yet it has money to wage war in Iraq and Afghanistan. How does any of this make any sense?

It would be cheaper to have them all on welfare than waste money on waging wars.

Switzerland does not wage war, does anyone think Switzerland is less safe than America? No, Switzerland is way more safe than America.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with SLUSK. The Iraq War never made sense and has been a huge drain on the US economy. While I can understand how the Afghanistan War looked like a good idea in 2001, I just don't think it can be won and therefore the US should withdraw as soon as possible imho.

If you are a banker or a member of the punitive caste(police, military etc) then there are no limits on the amounts of money they can give.

What makes you think that America is run for the benefit of its people?

Scare the people enough and they'll let you do just about anything, and the american public is ripe for manipulation.

I think the architects of the war have got exactly what they wanted out of it.

I do not think that at all, but there are still people out there who do.

I don't know.. I'm in a job and quite well paid for it.

Would rather be at home, but I think the long-term views for Afghanistan and Iraq are better for the invasions than they would have been without.

    NTM

This is America, they don't have money to keep schools open but they have money for war.

No money for education, but money for war.
No money for proper healthcare, but money for war.

For bankers and war there is no limit on how much America can spend.

Healthcare, and particularly Education, are matters primarily for State governments. War is a matter reserved exclusively for the Federal government. The money being spent on the wars would not be spent on education, and instead would be spent on things like border security or interstate transport, which are also the purview of the Federal budget.

True, but our current tax system is skewed towards the feds. They take in a higher percentage of money and distribute it back to the states. Many health programs are run at the state level, but funded by the feds. As for education, the Race to the Top by the feds is sending billions to the states for schools.

I don't think we do benefit, and if history is any guide, I am skeptical of any long term benefit for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. That being said, I am at a loss as to what to do. There were no viable candidates for president that advocated an immediate withdrawal.
