Just a quick one, is it possible to be pregnant even with a negative pregnancy test?
Google isn't really giving me a definite answer on this and im reluctant to go to GP, although I think this is my next step.

I'm not looking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone has ever experienced a negative test and then a couple of months down the line realized they are pregnant?

Opinions and stories would be very helpful!

    F

why don't you just do another test in a few days, then if you're not sure go to your GP

Yes. Go and see a GP.

Relying on Google for an issue of this magnitude is idiotic and you know it, go to your GP and they'll tell you straight away.

Yes it's possible - home kits can get it wrong. You won't know for sure unless you see a GP/wait a few months.

Yes it is possible to be pregnant. It depends on so many factors, such as what time of the month you're testing. Like others have said, there is no substitute for a visit to your GP.

My sister-in-law had a false negative on her first test and she is 8 weeks pregnant. It's quite common apparently. Either ask your GP to do a test or wait a few days and do another one.

It's possible to have a false negative, but not a false positive.
You know they don't work until your period is due, or about two weeks after unprotected sex.

Thanks for the replies, thing is, I'm over a month late... A month! Going to see GP on Friday i'd say, I'v spoken to him briefly over the phone but didn't really get the answers I was looking for...

    Thanks again for your replies!

It's a bit too serious a thing as to try to use the crystal ball over the phone to tell you if you could be pregnant. all the above posts are right : GO to your GP and discuss. The phone is a handy device but there are certain things that can't be done over it. Establishing if someone is pregnant when they are late and have equivocal results to home tests is one of them.

I have a friend who got a series of negative tests- and had what she thought were light periods for several months. She now has a lovely 18 month old daughter.

Home pregnancy are only indicators- for a definitive yes/no you *need* to get a blood test done.

With most tests there are usually trade offs made between False Negative rates and False Positive rates. With pregnancy tests there is basically a 0% False Positive rate but the False Negative rate as a result is quite high. Similarly with tests for HIV there is close to 0% False Negative rate but the False Positive rate is high. Go see a doctor and get that test and in the mean time stay off the booze and cigarettes.
