Hi guys, after alot of research and trial and error i have decided to start a small headware business. making fascinators and hair accessories for race days weddings, corsages for debs etc. the one thing i have had serious problem with though.. is deciding on a name! :o at this stage my brain is going to explode. The latest i came up with is "featherwear" ? any opinons? or even advice?

    thanks , sadie.:)

Why try to think of something cool or clever, I like:

    Sadie Shaw Millinery Ltd

    or

    Sadie Shaw Headwear Ltd

Shows your a specialist and people will like that they are dealing with the boss.

    Hi Sadie

I'm not trying to add to your dilemma, but maybe coincide your business name with available domains

ie Sadie Shaw Ltd - sadieshaw.ie

    or such

but my suggestion is hats "n" heads if you are trying to make it fun.

Word of caution though secure your domain name before posting what you finally decided on so someone does not try snatch it from under your nose and sell it to you at an inflated price.

best of luck with your venture

Hi Sadie. I think that if you are aiming towards the higher end of the market (occasional headwear like race days etc), then you should use the word Millinery.

Hats 'n' Heads is a cool name but to me suggests beanies, caps etc.

thanks for all your suggestions.! yes i definately agree with you about using millinery. However one of the main reasons I wanted to start a business like this is to be different from all of the other milliners.:) As the majority can be very expensive .

My aim is to cater for everyone.! and to do that we have to keep the cost down. the main product we do is fascinators-(feathered hair accessories) they can be any size, and worn for weddings to graduation balls, i even have orders for wrist corsages for debs in august!.

definatly food for thought though! :)

    thanks again

Even if you are doing it for a budget market, its still a luxury and its relatively high end so you should go for a classy name and include your own name somewhere to give the feeling of bespoke and the fact that you specialize.

So i'd agree with something like Feathers by Sadie Shaw or Millinery by Sadie Shaw

Something like below, to show upscale professionalism, yet at the same time showing its not a stuffy old shop that'll cost you a second mortgage...
