Sony's GDC press conference live

Sony's not actually keynoting at this year's GDC, but is hosting an offsite event on Wednesday, March 10.

Furthermore, this event will feature a press conference and you'll be able to see all the breaking news as it happens courtesy of a live stream provided by G4TV.

The conference kicks off at 7pm EST, which according to our calculations means UK viewers will have to pry open their eyes at 3am on Thursday morning.

What Sony has in store isn't known, but our money's on some kind of solid Motion Controller info - a date, price, name and possibly a launch line-up.

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't 7pm EST = Midnight our time and not 3am?

Edit streaming here at midnight : http://g4tv.com/gdc2010/articles/70096/GDC_2010_Sony_Press_Conference/

So far, not much that the Wii hasnt done.

Heres hoping they show that 3rd person shooter in the intro video, only one that could have promise.

EDIT: Announcer in that Move Party makes mewant to hurt people.....

That fighting game looked a helluva lot better than wii boxing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,057 ✭✭✭mailrewop

    that fighting game looks terrible

Did he say Soccom4 with Move?? Awesome!

Heh, it looks like a more HD MAG. (3rd person of course though)

Finally some proper use for it. Almost mouse and keyboard controls for the PS3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,054 ✭✭✭✭Professey Chin

    That's it??

Gah, was hoping to hear more about the premium PSN service.

I just wonder how much movement of the Move will be needed to aim, seemed ok in the demo but its one of those things ya cant gauge till ya try yourself.

    Yep, my thoughts exactly.

Killzone 3? More PSN evolution? Show off some 3D stuff?

Instead we just get the horrendously named "Move" (what was wrong with "Arc"?) and a load of crap no one cares about. I'm sorry Sony, but the kids are not PS3's demographic.... and gaming is a solitary experience (bar online)... I'm not sharing couch space with a friend to hold a "Movemote" to guide me through LBP.

    E3 better be good...

Looks good, i think, still have to play it as the person playing it there seems to be having lots of clunky movements. Practice makes perfect i guess.
Another device to purchase along with skate boards, guitars, drums, buzzers and controllers !

TBh it was just GDC so it made sense that theyd be showing something small but thats new for developers to arse around with.
E3 is a consumer show so thats why the big guns get brought out there :)

While technically you're right, this was being broadcast on G4TV and demo pods were provided after, so this was as good as a consumer launch as E3 would. Would have been good to get people excited about stuff, instead of spending 40mins on rip-off hardware.

I prefer to look at it in a way of this means they dont have to spend 40 minutes talking about it at E3:pac:

Sony have said the conrotllers will work with any game

You can use your normal PS3 controller instead of the nunchuck i mean sub controller !. I will have to wait to get my hands on it as i wont fall into the same trap when i thought the Wii looked fun  and get one for the laugh. But it was a plus when the guy sat down playing SOCOM 4 but in some video's i saw clips of, a guy was trying to move his team with the "MOVE" and he was getting shot and couldnt switch back to the look around function to shoot back quickly enough and it all looked unnecessarily complicated.

The fighting game falls into the same problem the Wii had in that when you swing it instigates a movement on screen rather than mapping your movements. So you could do 3 quick punches and the guy on screen just does one slow one.

The other games im sure will be a bundle of party games ill have little interest in. If they can get some good full games it may be a success at least they have support from all the big players. Activision, EA, Ubisoft, Konomi, etc etc.

Humm im not buying it.... not literally I mean, but i'll have to see better than a crappy fight club and bowling game before I part with my cash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

And another thing will the cross hair shake like im an old 70 year old alco in shooting games liek it does on the Wii making precision shots impossible.

Pity they didnt mention any thing about how precise it will be :p

100 dollars for move and then they have a nunchuk as well for anoth 50 or so dollars. I already paid 500 for my PS3. It's going to have to take a very good exclusive to get me to invest. I already have a wii and don't need a prettier punchout (which is awesome, punchout that is) or wii sports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭eddhorse

I agree retro, although i dont have a Wii but its still a lot extra for something that might not make the gaming experience any better !!

If i dont get a promo one off Sony i dont think ill get one unless they release something amazing. The whole point and shoot aspect for FPS could be interesting but will it offer an advantage against normal controller users?.

It will also have to work in a small room my Wii was rendered useless becasue my games room isnt wide enough for it to pick up the controllers !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,057 ✭✭✭mailrewop

what i meant was will people have to buy two move controllers because i think in the fighting game the player was using two, one for each hand.

Yea the small controller doesnt have any motion control in it. Its basically half a normal controller to offer an analogue stick for moving around.

I think PS Move looks like the wii, but done well. Quite excited about it. Probably wont invest though.

    From Here :

    http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/03/10/introducing-playstation-move/

By now you may have seen the update on our new PlayStation 3 motion controller, via our live video stream at GDC. In case you missed it, let me introduce you to ‘PlayStation Move’.

    4423031462_c7f959bd98.jpg

We first showed the ‘Move’ controller prototype at E3 in 2009 and we’re now ready with the final design, along with an early look at just a few of the upcoming games…

Take a look at our trailer below, which aims to explain PlayStation Move in more detail:

Our launch games are designed to appeal to all PlayStation 3 fans. We’ve got our own take on social games such as ‘Sports Champions’ and ‘Move Party’ (both working titles) as well as keeping our more serious gamers in mind with DUKES and EA’s Tiger Woods 2010. Many of our existing franchises such as SOCOM will also be enhanced with PlayStation Move functionality – because of Move’s low performance impact on the PS3 system we’re able to add this to our existing games without compromising graphical quality or gameplay. The PlayStation Move experience will offer our players a fun, high definition and immersive gaming experience.

As you know, we’ve got a lot of experience working with motion and camera-based control systems, having created the original EyeToy for PlayStation 2 back in 2003. This experience has really helped make sure our new control system is incredibly accurate and responsive. PlayStation development teams are working hard to create a strong and exciting line-up of games – you’ll be hearing more about new titles in the coming months but for now, here is a list of the games we’ve announced so far:

Dukes — Brawl your way to the top in this brutal bare-knuckle boxing game.
    4422290413_331d13b071.jpg

Move Party — Chaotic multiplayer where you never know what will happen next!
    4423059250_b0268fe527.jpg

Sports Champions — The greatest athletes in the world are ready, are you?
    4423083794_908b3da0b9.jpg

TV Superstars — Be a contestant in five TV game shows to prove that you are the biggest star.
    4422331711_9185f0e9d0.jpg

Slider — Kung-fu action – on an office chair!?!
    4422302201_7c020d8789.jpg

The Shoot — Take out the bad guys but make sure the movie director likes your style!
    4422321815_2dc99a4d88.jpg

More news both from first and third party publishers to follow in the near future…

You will be able to get involved with PlayStation Move in several ways:

    * Camera + controller (including a “starter disc” with a range of demos for games releasing later in the year)
    * A single controller for people who already have a PlayStation Eye camera
    * A full console pack which includes PS3, dualshock3, Move controller + camera
    * Finally some of our biggest games will be available with a Move controller included

We’ve also announced the Subcontroller this week, an additional peripheral for use with more hardcore titles like SOCOM, which benefit from analogue stick input.

    4422266435_0601f8ab83_m.jpg

I look forward to hearing your feedback and responses to the announcement of PlayStation Move in America this week. Watch out for interviews with Move developers from GDC here on PlayStation.Blog.

Start moving and being at the centre of the action and start a new way to play on PlayStation 3 in 2010…

The Wii bandwagon has been around for ~ 3 years and now they jump on...

How many of you all have a Wii gathering dust in your sitting room?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Mine doesn't gather dust. Some smashing games on it and the homebrew channel gets loads of use for emulators! But I didn't buy my PS3 to play mini games.
