looking for a free program that will let me play a slideshow of a folder of images. I need to able to set the interval between each image, hence why the built in option doesn't work. Ideally anything up to 24/48 hours would be good, but at this stage if it only went to an hour it would do. Preferably it wouldn't pre load all the images.

    thanks for any suggestions

Would this be any good to you ? can set interval to 300 seconds (5 minutes) and loop the slideshow to run it as long as you want.

    definitely a start! thanks

was ideally looking for something that's at least 10 minutes though, so other suggestions are very welcome. or if anyone know how to doctor the code in the built in windows 7 slideshow to change the interval?!

    no doctoring the code

nah you won't be able to rewrite it anyway, there might be a reigstry setting but the screensaver is just a freebie so don't expect it to do everything

a messy way of doing it would be to run the slide show from one folder with one file in it and every 10 minutes a batch file copy a new file over it

    something like -
    for /F %a in *.jpg do copy %a \slideshow\picture.jpg & sleep 600
    %0

    Use this myself:

    John’s Background Switcher « John’s Adventures

Should be able to do the trick.

    Try Windows Live Photogallery :

    http://download.live.com/photogallery).

I`m not sure if you can change the interval to 10 minutes, but you can still give it a try ;)

ye, the only reason I mentioned the code was hopefully it may have been as easy as changing a seconds figure! haven't a clue otherwise...

that changes the background, I'm looking for something that will display the photos full screen, similar to the built in slideshow that 7 gives you.

I'll give this a shot now and report back.

The machine is hooked up to a tv in the kitchen that is being used as a digital photo frame when not in use, which is most of the time, hence the need for slideshow etc, and I don't want the images jumping every few seconds, hence the need for something like this. Thinking about it, 10 minutes is almost definitely to short, but we'll go from here.

thanks for that, not gonna work i'm afraid. you can only set it to slow medium or fast, which isn't enough control unfortunately.

Anything I try google just brings stuff about the desktop slideshow for changing backgrounds etc.

I made the switch to mac about 4 or 5 years ago, I'm quite a heavy photographer so it works better etc. I'm pretty good at PC's but only using them when I have to, which isn't that often, I'm a bit out of the loop!

I know you said "free" but http://www.axialis.com/ssp/ might do the trick - downside, you have to pay for it.
I own a professional version of this software myself and found it does everything excellent.
