Coming off the Pill

    Hi all,

Regular boardie, but going unreg for this one....

Im getting married at the end of the year.. and have been on the pill for about 14 years at this stage... am hoping to get pregnant as soon as possible after we are married, so I figure if I stopped taking it now and relied on condoms etc, my cycle should be back to normal somewhat by year end?

The initial reason for going on the pill was to try and regularise my periods. They were all over the place when I was younger and very heavy.

Another question, and it may sound very silly, but knowing my luck Id end up with a period for my wedding.... is there anyway around this... everything is booked and sorted now...

    Thank you

I imagine every one will vary somewhat and then different pills will have different effects. Really the best person tot talk to is your doctor, especially I suppose if you do plan on having children soon, having a general check-up might be good.

It can take 6 months to a year for your periods to start regulating themselves after being on the pill for so long. If you do come off it there is no way to know if you will have your period on any given week.

I got pregnant within a month of coming off the pill.

I think the only way to can guarantee not to have a period for your wedding is to keep taking it till after the wedding?

On my pack of Dianette it says the reason you should wait until your periods regularise before getting pregnant is so that the doctor can figure out when you ovulated and predict the birth date. It says if you become pregnant before that not to worry, the baby will not be affected.:)

So you could wait until just after the wedding day if you were worried you might get anaemic/ bad cramps/ acne/ mood swings. I'd either stop taking it months in advance, or just after.

You probably know you're supposed to tell your doctor if you're planning on having a baby. They normally give you B12 supplements and check your iron etc, so definitely talk to him/her about it.
