Is there anyone who is not a celebrity nowadays? It seems someone hwho virtually no one has heard about and was in a tv show in the 1980's qualifies as being a "celebrity".

It really can't be long before our milkman and the manager of our local spar qualify as being a celebrity, and it seem there are more celebrities nowadays than non celebrities. Certainly, its more exclusive to be a non celebrity nowadays.

Um he wasn't 'just in a tv show'. He was in tons of movies, some really classic ones and was a major heart throb for millions of girls back in the day. He was a great actor and just because todays generation hasn't heard of him doesnt make him a nobody. He was battling drugs basically since he hit the big time which is probably the reason the work stopped for him just like so many celebrities.
So if you've never heard of him then I suggest you don't bother commenting.

It's a pity how many talented people die of drug abuse ...

thanks for your suggestion, although I've often observed that unasked fro advice is rarely welcomed.

How can someone be a celebrity, when you have to list after their name what thay have done due to the fact that most people haven't a clue who they are?

He wasn't a "great" actor just because he as in a sitcom, as to become a great actor like Gielgud, or Guinness, or Olivier, or Bette Davis takes years of work. Jusr becasue someone was ni a soap 20 or more years ago doesn't make them a "great " actor.

I'm sure he was a lovely guy and a wonderful guy and he might even have been a very talented actor, but that is to misconstrue my point that someone who needs explanation beyond their name isn't a "celebrity".

No one has to explain who Bette Davis is, or Prince Charles, or Alex Guinness...and thats the sign of celebrity.

Of course, celebrity seems to have become to mean anyone at all who has ever had their name in a newspaper, or appeared in whatever minor capacity on a tv show, or anyone who once sang in the chorus. You can tell who those people are because, when they say their name, there is always an explanation afterwards as to why they are celebrities as most people will never have heard of them before.

Hence you think this chap is a celebrity, even though hardly anyone else knows who he is, and its necessary to actually tel us he was in loads of movies and that lots of girls in the 1980 found him a hearth throb.

Imaging having to explain that Better Davis was in some movies!

And there we go, cause - sorry - even if that makes me seem like and idiot to you, I've got no idea who Bette Davis is - but I very well know who Corey Haim was.

I don't know why it's so important to you whether or not he was a celebrity - just ignore the thread if you don't know the guy and that's it.
I've heard news about his death from several sites I read on a regular basis by now, btw. - just because you didn't know him doesn't mean no one else did/does.

Firstly, don't assume no-one else knows who he is. If The Thrills knew enough about him to put him in their song title, chances are he's famous.

Secondly, this forum is celebrity and showbiz, and I would include any actor past or present as being part of the showbiz world.

Finally, in an internet-driven world where imdb and wikipedia are well-known websites, anyone who needs to ask about who a celebrity is without checking their facts first isn't too clever. Enough people wrote here to pay their respects, let's not derail the thread. Just my opinion, whether you asked for it or not.

What is this sitcom or 'soap' you keep referring to? He was movie actor not a sitcom king..I know he started his career as a litte kid with a small part in a sitcom but not for that long. Not like Will Smith who spent the frst half of his life in a sitcom or about 90% of movie heroes who all started or spent time in sitcoms.
Now Bette Davies, yes she is certainly well known but I cannot name one of her movies! I'm not interested in that movie genre however I would never dismiss her as a nobody for this reason.
    Prince Charles, a celebrity, really?!
Alex Guinness?? I do know an Alec!Lol
And Sir Gielgud, of Gielgud theatre I presume...apart from that I couldn't tell you one thing about him..does that mean he was just a wannabe?
A lot of people know who Haim was, I was simply explaining to you, without going into details of the hundreds of movies he's been in, who he was. I'm not sure what generation you are from. First I thought you must be really young then I though no, you might be older than I thought with the Bette Davies reference but it really doesn't matter. You're just presuming because you and maybe a couple of mates didn't know of him that nobody did.
You mention that it takes years of work to be a celebrity, well he worked for 20 plus years making some classic films! How long did Marylin Monroe work for? How about James Dean? Kurt Cobain, Aaliyah, Heath Ledger, 2 Pac, Biggie, Buddy Holly, Hank Williams? I mixed the list up a bit and I expect there are one or two people you don't recognise. My point is they were all well known and extremely talented, many were heroes for millions of people. It would be an insult for you to disregard the work of any of these people especially just because you don't know them.

    http://www.tvguide.com/News/Corey-Haim-Death-1018110.aspx
Corey Haim died of natural causes, not drugs, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
Haim's death was caused primarily by pneumonia. In addition, he had a bad heart, specifically the muscle in his heart was thickened and made it hard for blood to flow, and he suffered from hardened arteries.
Haim's toxicology report found drugs in his system, but ruled none of the substances found were "significant contributing" factors, the coroner's office said.
Following his death, the California attorney general's office discovered Haim had been linked to a prescription drug ring and that he had obtained 553 pills before his death.
Haim, the star of films such as Lucas and The Lost Boys, died March 10 at age 38.

    :(
