Christ man learn how to spell, at least try to make an effort.

I was with westpac and although westpac has a setup in both OZ and NZ they are not linked at all. I had to setup another account with them and send NZ Westpac a Fax with account details etc so that they could initiate a transfer of funds. And yes they did charge me on both ends!
ANZ might be different but I wouldn't be too surprised if there was a charge after all it is a FX transfer!

Fraid so, well for 6 months, then home to finish degree, then apply for Permanent residency for oz, and then, then I will take my rightful place on the throne of my fathers kingdom.

anz in NZ and anz Oz or not linked at all either - I originally set up with ANZ in oz with the intention of switching over to NZ but had to go through everything to set up a new account here exactly the same as if I never had an account in Oz...you still get charged ridiculous fees when using an OZ ANZ card here in a NZ atm...Sham really

Fukks sake. What New Zealand bank would you recommend? How would you recommend getting money into an NZ account cheaply?

    Thanks

I hear you - I was exactly the same...can't really recommend any of them - maybe use Forex or something..you do get a number of free transfers and a good exchange rate (but takes time and proof of id etc to set up) -

if you use your OZ anz card here I think the charge are:

    $5 Foreign Transaction
    $2 Atm Transaction
Not a great exchange rate and I'm still not sure if they add on a non anz transaction for using other banks (as well as the $2 charge for it being a non oz anz) - I think thats all about right...its pretty ****ty either way

actually i just checked it and it works as follows on any transaction

    ATM TRANSACTION FEE $5 AUD
OVERSEAS TRANSACTION FEE of 2% NZD (so around 1.75 AUD or so)

and i've only ever used an anz atm here so i wouldnt be surprised if they tagged on a non anz fee to

What are you advising me to do? Set up an account over there from here and transfere the money?

just wait until you get to NZ and set up an account - you can then transfer it over the internet - you still get ripped off - $25 fee to receive i think and fees on the OZ end, something stupid like that...best advise is to keep your AUD in Oz and earn some NZD here...I think the rate for AUD to NZD is the strongest its been in years though so that should make up for any fees...

Can't really advise much past that- you'll basically get ripped off either way unless you use a specialist Foreign exchange company and NZForex are doing first 2 transfers free (I just started to join last week so I can transfer a few lump sums without getting screwed)
