    Hi,

I recently ditched my Technics system after years of service and picked up the Musical Fidelity AMP. I am looking for a good CD player that won't break the bank to pair with the amp.

The cd player I am considering is the Rotel RCD-06 can you please advise if this would be a good pairing or am I wasting my time.

I am quite new to this and have limited knowledge on all things audiophile and would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

I Think that CD player would be fine. Most dedicated CD players sound good.

That's a really nice amp you bought there and the Rotel would be fine with it. I'd avoid any bright (high treble) players such as Marantz/Phillips with Rotel amplification but otherwise you'll be ok. Get yourself a decent interconnect too... Dalkey Audio Cables do great interconnects for relatively little outlay. See http://stores.shop.ebay.ie/spenny03076342__W0QQ_armrsZ1QQ_fsubZQ2d999QQ_scZ1QQ_sopZ1 and the Vico cable in particular.

The big question here is what speakers are you going to put these through? They deserve a bit of quality...

Please do not derail this thread into a discussion about interconnects, cables etc. There is a stickey entitled "Cable Question ? Please Read this first" at the top of the forum. Any sign of derailment on this or any other basis and the lucky poster(s) will be enjoying long holidays from all of the HE forums. Same goes for baiting.

    Hi,

I personally think the Musical Fidelity A3 deserves a better CD player. I'm sure the Rotel is good but it is a mid-priced CD player while the amp is sort of "entry level high-end". They would probably sound fine but a high quality source would ensure you are getting sufficient quality from your discs which the high quality amp can then do justice to. Otherwise I suppose its virtues would be wasted a bit but it really depends on what quality you would seek. Perhaps you should wait a little to get a more costly CD player or consider buying second-hand. Some are often for sale second-hand in Buy and Sell.

You're 100% correct there... which is why I want to know what speakers are in the mix.

No baiting intended Ritz, it's just that the gear is good and, as I always say, if the connection isn't up to it you won't hear the best from either.
I'd offer the OP the option of borrowing some IC cables from me if he wishes (no I'm not selling them!) so he can decide for himself.

The speakers I am using are B&W DM600 S3 I have no immediate plans to upgrade but I appreciate any advice regarding suitability / alternatives etc.

I understand the mod's concerns re interconnect discussions but I will ensure to invest in decent interconnects when buying the cd player.

    Hi,

I ended up buying Harman Kardon HD 970 cd player. I picked it up in mint condition for €100.

The sound from the CD player is great and it has the bonus of having a DAC which will be useful for putting my PC through the amp.

The plan is to eventually buy a mid end cd player so I will keep an eye on adverts.ie and see what is out there. If you see anything that would compliment the amp please let me know.

    Thanks, Stig
