She's Dead Jim - Dead....

    Well it finally happened.

    Day 1 - 60G PS3 died early this morning.
Was taking her out for a gentle walk before work and next thing I knew she started heaving her last breath and said goodbye.

Did the usual - and have seen the other threads on small claims court - but think I might just stick with the 360 for a while now.

Shame really - that black monolith in the corner is no more.
Yes she had her off days - last week - refused to play any games for a day - thought that day was bad. But she came back - appeared to make a full recovery. Was off life support for a week now - had eased her back into it.

But maybe the Assassin in the machine just had enough this morning. Tired of scaling view points or poisoning guards - just as he was about to infiltrate the villa instead he decided to pull the plug on my box...

Adios PS3 - will miss you and who knows - maybe someday in the future I might dig you up and refurb you or indeed splash for a slimmer younger model - cheeky I know - they don't have your brains - may not get to enjoy Ico or Legacy of Kain - but who knows what another month will bring...

I'm sorry for your loss. I too have felt the searing pain of losing my PS3. It seemed to me that she was in life support ever since I purchased her.

    Long live the fallen.

Have you tried the heat gun fix?.....i did it on my brothers PS3 and it worked. The heat sink paste on those 60gb is woefully inadequate.

Nope - not that keen on cracking the beastie open.
Have a suspicion it might be a short or something else as it was just on 5 min when I could swear I heard a pop or a crackle - barely just as it shut down.

Will wait to see if I can get an exchange - if not might just be tempted to try this. Otherwise will focus on the 360 for a while - and see if the bug to get the slim gets the better of me. All depends on how much the OH can put up with the fan noise of that other beastie...

Cheers for this though - gives me something to think about.

    .

Install your games and you will have minimal noise, its actually the disc drive thats the source of most of it. The PS3 is still silent compared to it but installing games makes all the difference.

Yup - cheers for that - but even when say streaming the fan is still quite a bit louder than the PS3 - unfort her hearing is sensitive - I can block it out - but the noise just gives her a headache.

Eh do you have a choice for installing games? I didnt think there was.

Ah you are talking about an XBOX

    Sorry eddhorse.

Yup - jumped the thread onto how to make the noisy X-box behave itself so that my OH does not throw a strop.

    Day 2 is here.
Turned her back on for old times sake earlier - and in the vain hope that like Kratos she had clawed her way back out of hell. But instead just watched the blinking red eye of the demon stare back at me.

Relative of mine lost his 2 wks ago - so might take that carcass off his hands and see about splicing the two - all he needs is the blu-ray. Who knows - there might be hope yet without having to pay the hostage fee.

Very easy to swap the blu ray drives, a lot easier than swapping the lens !

Cheers - that is what I am thinking.
Will still lose all my data - but you know I think I can live with that. Would also mean I would get my disc back.

Tried all the usual resets - but shuts down too soon to allow the forced eject to work.

Hi Taltos, you could try this, try turning the power off in the back, then hold the eject button and turn it on from the back. This got my MW2 disc out of my YLOD 40gb last week.

Thanks disco girl - but no joy.
At this stage have just accepted that the assassin has fallen in combat. He may yet rise - but right now - he's too dam comfy in there :)
