Hey Im in wexford and basically looking for a cool bike..and by cool i mean looks wise, not too interested in performance, well obviously I dont want it falling apart or anything but im not a heavy cyclist, just the odd spin around the village to keep fit or up to the local soccer pitch etc...also is 200-300 euro enough of a budget? My friend said halfords had some nice machines but can anyone recommened anything else or give me any advice in general?

Where to begin! A cool looking bike IS usually a performance bike. If it dosen't look cool it is normally crap. Generally!

If your going for the odd spin to keep fit you would need to go for a few more if you want to get bike fit. Thats to say your needs will be for a bike that will have a certain level of performance. If you keep it up its better to have a decent bike than an old heavy one that will quickly put you off.

Saying all that your budget is not big enough for what I described. Even a relatively cheap MTB will cost that much but it does sound like you want something a bit racier! So you will have to up your budget to e400-450 to pick up a decent S/H road bike. Keep an eye on the Adverts above and check out what guys are selling for that price.

Sorry if I've put you off, not the intention. You have an obvious interest(in cool bikes anyway), for my suggestion you will get a bike that will get you from A to B, get you fit, and look cool-all for a little bit more money than your current budget! Good luck.

Exposed suspension is cool, racing cars have it. So buy something with as much pimpin' suspension as possible for your budget, preferably with red and gold spangly bits.

When it all stops working you'll still be going slow enough for passers by to appreciate your machinery. No point whizzing past people at 40kph is there?

answer is no. buy a bike in that price range and it will be heavy, uncomfortable and built with crap parts. Up your budget to €500 and save yourself a lot of hassle

If you do decide to buy in halfords choose from there Carera range - also keep an eye on their website for sales - regularly knock 30% off the price - even ask the staff when next reduction is coming up.

Plenty of threads in Boards regarding Halfords bikes and mixed views.

Halfords will do you fine for an everyday bike.

Any chance you could get it on the bikes to work scheme and that way you could up your budget by 30 to 50 %.
