    Hi all,
I've noticed that some sites I'm trying to delete in favourites and history will not go. I've tried deleting them individually in the drop down address bar at the top and by going into "tools", "delete browsing history" but no joy - any ideas what to do?

Google ccleaner, download, install and run it.

Select what you want to clear.

It clears most of the things for me and its a free tool.

Installed it, ran it and wiped nearly everything - websites still in drop-down:mad:

The latest version of IE is 8 :)

Do you have any toolbar installed?

    As I said, I wasn't sure!

No toolbars installed, had Ask.com but not up and running - deleted it with ccleaner

The address bar in Internet Explorer is integrated with Windows Desktop search by default so even if you clear the IE history, the web entries that are stored in Windows search index will still show-up in the address bar. These entries appear in the same “History” group and hence users (myself included) confuse it with IE’s history.

To prevent web history items Windows Search from completely showing up in the IE address bar, go to Tools –> Internet Options –> Content –> AutoComplete and delete the option that says “Use Windows Search for better results.”

    That should fix your problem.
