How to copy from mac to NTFS HDD

A mate has given me his Windows NT formatted HDD. He wants me to copy some files (mp3, avi) onto it but my Mac says it's read only. Wiping his HDD is not an option.

Is there anyway to copy from my Mac to his Windows NTFS formatted external HDD without wiping and reformatting the HDD?

Strangely, I can copy files from his HDD to my Mac no problem.

OS X can only read not write to NTFS. There are a few third-party offerings which get around this, such as NTFS-3G, but afaik they aren't free.

NTFS-3G and Macfuse (together) will allow you to do it - both free
