Can any one point me in the direction of a company who manufactures a hardwood front which has been tested. By tested I mean where the company has some external certification saying the door will perform to certain standards (BS I imagine) for insulation and air tightness.

I know there are a lot of good companies out there who make doors but I'd like that extra peace of mind.

i ended up with composite. it made sense as it had a u value of 1.2. no warping and double sealed.

Black georgian style ( no glass) composite door for me too.Very good insulation properties, one hell of a locking system on it,and you wont kick this door in easily.

Can also be painted,if you decided that you want to change its coliur in a few years.

No joy at all on this. I seems that a decision on what a "quality" solid timber front door is will have to be based on manufacturers reputation and the quality of the materilas used as I have found no company offering the type of door I want with any certification.

I got a upvc composite door put in last year, of the Apeer brand that all the pvc window places are doing.

I would not recommend. Locks are not as good the ones on a far cheaper standard upvc door at the back of the house. It is also difficult to close.

Worse still is the quality of the seal, and the warpage. Front of house is south facing, door was supposed to not warp (as per manufacturer's advertising), but it does.

Double rebated, but the seal is not uniform - my standard upvc windows provide a vastly superior seal and sound insulation. The inner gasket is also not great - v-shaped, and I don't think it does a good job.

The crowd who fitted have since gone out of business - not surprised they are gone that way having dealt with them, but disappointed given that my 10-year guarantee has turned to dust.

Manufacturers have not been helpful though - no assistance.

Could be down to fitting, but I still wouldn't recommend, far from it.

Maybe it's down to it being a product for the cheaper end of the market - but then why is my back door that cost half the price far better?
