    Hi all,

Just looking for some advice. I live in Kildare with 3 housemates. I lost my job in November and currently am recieving 196Euro a week. My housemates are moving out in April and I need to find a place to live. My total income is my welfare. Can anyone tell Me how much rent allowance I am entitled to? It says on welfare.ie that for a single person in My area it is 112Euro per week which is 448Euro per month. I'm presuming that includes my 24Euro contribution per week... So I pay 24x4 = 96 a month and welfare pays 352Euro per month? I was looking on daft and I cannot find a one bedroom flat or studio in my area for less than 675 a month? I dont have transport so I'll need to be fairly near train/buses. I'm worried sick that I will not have a place to live in April. There's no sign of a job yet and I've no family or friends near by... Could anyone tell Me how much I would be entitled to? Do you think they'd stretch to the cheapest one bedroom around? at 675Euro a month?

    Thanks so much in advance

It says on welfare.ie that for a single person in My area it is 112Euro per week which is 448Euro per month.
    That figure is incorrect. It's actually €485.33 per month. (112 x 52)/12.

Subtract €24 from the weekly rent to get the RA received (e.g. if you were paying €112/week rent, you'd receive €88 RA each week).

You should contact your CWE if you're still unclear. Best of luck finding new digs.

Thanks a mill Jilm I think I get it alright. So the maximum I should expect to be able to rent for is around 589 Euro.

    112 x 52 = 5824 (welfare contribution )
    24 x 52 = 1248 (My contribution )

    Thats a total of 7072/12 = 589.

Think thats right... As I was saying the cheapest that I can see within an hours commute of Dublin (For interviews and jobs ) is 675Euro for a one bed. I don't know what I will do in that case. I'm in my late twenties now and the thoughts of sharing again really distresses Me. In a bit of a muddle with this one :(

Hi, Just be careful about new accommodation, I believe you have to be renting for 6 months before being considered for rent allowance. I would be concerned you are moving to a new address. Check this out fully with the CWO before moving

    Hi Dempo

Thanks for that point. I hadnt realised you had to be in the new accomodation six months before recieving rent allowance! Even though I've been renting in private accomodation for 4 years before? right I better go see the CWO just to be sure! thanks again

Yes, i learned about this recently however if you have evidence of private rental, rent receipts, payments etc, the CWO may take this into consideration, just worth being cautious so speak to the CWO before doing anything!
