do you think it would make that much, wouldn't be as popular as the 290 as it had the longer wheelbase too

Ah its still a Massey and there dam all wrong with a 298, they had a livelier engine than a 290 (236 perkins) not near as hard to start and if maintained no bother at all

Th duncan (phonebox) cabs are grand but not much space for the dog !!

Make sure is starts easily from cold, and that there is no weird noises from the bottom end of the engine, the engine in the 298 is a bit of a rarity, its a perkins 4.318 same as in 595 and 698, 698T had a 4.236

Not many 298s with 4wd about, think there were only a few hundred of them built from 1984-86. Duncan had their own facility within the MF factory for fitting the cabs. AFAIK the 298 was offered with the Duncan cab only, other smaller models could be had with cabs from Cabcraft(not very nice) or Sankey , a decent cab but not much room inside either. Price? I would say around 8k

the 298 engine is supose to give trouble and this one did, he spent quite a few quid on engine alone..
as for trying to get some parts for the duncan cab, the main massey dealer couldnt get them and when he contacted duncan in england and they no longer done them either...
he had to get the parts made up at a local engineering business...

its a really nice tractor, radials all round 4200 hrs,

He would be happy with the prices quoted here

its not worth near 8-9000. its woth just over half that. the 318 was famous for blowing a piece off the block between the 2 liners cause thay werent spaced out far enough. you cant get bits for that engine today so if it gives hassle your up the swanney. the duncan cab was also a bad design. the 4wd drop box from the gearbox always leaked around the big seal or the ;arge buush would get worn and eat the brop box housing, which will cost you about €300.

    not a good buy imo.

But its still a massey and it will still make big money at least 7k knowing the way masseys sell

Remember the engine in this has been fully rebuilt, new clutch, lift pump reconditioned, new tyres, cab redone and new paint job so I would think it is worth more than 4-4500k…

Im up that way next week and must get some photos of it
