    Hi guys,

I'm completely new to this, only just learning to drive as I need a car by the summer. I was looking at getting my first car and a guy my dad knows well is selling a Daewoo Lanos. its
    • a '02
    • got 65K miles
    • had a timing belt replaced at 39K kilometers
    • one previous owner, male buisness man in 40s
    • full service before sale with a years NCT

    and it's going for €1650.

Any advice? good deal? bad deal? crap car? any input appreciated!!!

They arent great to be honest but that is way overpriced i think 400 would be enough for it.

Crap car but with a good NCT and small enough miles, buy it for anything under 1500 quid and its an ideal car to learn in....just dont expect your mates to go anywhere with you :D

ah jaysis lads thats a bit harsh....

ok... it doesnt have a enough power to pull you out of bed in the morning...
no big deal, for first car......

looks- being nice... its not the best.... but there are uglier cars out there..

it slow... but it will get you from A to B....

a bit pricey but if you can knock a couple hundred off.. its not too bad if the service history is up to date and full.

Its a reasonable offer for a reasonable car. Obviously get some money knocked off the asking price as you do.
Very boring looks, very mediocre performance but should be spot on for a first car.
Get someone who knows a bit about cars to take it for an observation spin & if it checks out ok i can't see any reason not to go for it.

Offer 1000 cash. Perfect car for learning. Cheap and easy. I had one for the wife to learn on. Doesnt matter if you have a mishap as you didnt pay to much.

Our one was quite thirsty and could never understand why.

Go for it but get the price down.

    500 is enough for it

Thanks for all the replies guys :)

As stated, I'm pretty useless when it comes to cars. Are there any cars that people would be recommending for a first car? I'd need something i could fit 2 kids in the back of so can't afford to get something too small

In all fairness i don't think thats good advise.
Its not that bad a car, 500euro is a ridiculous amount of money to offer for that car unless there is something critically wrong with it.

Take a look at any of the car-for-sale websites & you will not see one of them for that price.
If he got it for around 1300 euro it would be a serious bargain for a lower mileage 2002 car.

op, i have a daewoo lanos and yes, as someone pointed out it wont have a enough power to pull you out of bed :) but its a grand starter car.

now for the important bit DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PAY €1650 for it. you can pick a daewoo lanos up on carzone fro e600

Yeah but that car is 2 years older than the car that the OP described. And more importantly the NCT is expired & it probably needs a service & the timing belt changed.

    €400, €500, €600 are ye for real ?
The seller will have no bother seeing €1300 for it, it's a low mileage 8 year old car with a long NCT.
If you want it offer €1200 for it and see how it goes, anything up to €1400 and you're doing very well. Offer less than €1200 and they'll tel you to get f**ked, at least they should if sane.

These are absoluety crap cars. The E-tec engines in them have an appetite for head gaskets too.
