    I'm setting up a business profile on facebook having never used this site before the lack of a customer service email is a bit headwrecking.

    What I need to find out is if it is possible that I can set up the account and not allow anyone to post messages on the account and if someone wants to be friends they can just join without me having to go through confirmation emails?

    Cheers.

    Yes, as far as I know you can tick the option where only Admins can posts items/text on the wall.

    You're going to find it very difficult to have a good experience with a Facebook business page if you're not familiar with FB itself. Back off on the business site for a while until you've got a good feel for how FB works, and you've seen a few other business sites.

    set up a mock business, make as many mistakes as you want until you know what you're doing then go with the real idea

    it only needs to be a basic facebook page to direct people to the website.

    This is pointless, as you would know if you were a Facebook user.

    out of curiosity why is it pointless?

    Because no-one will see it, and no-one will engage with it.

    Don't jump into Facebook because you've heard a bit about it in the press. If you want to use it for your business, first think is to work out how it works, then you can work out how to make it work for your business.

    If you had used Facebook, you would know that you can't advertise on Facebook groups. Are you thinking about paid adverts, or are you hoping to spam groups with messages that mention your business?

    Really, hold off on your business page until you've found your way around and worked out how it can suit your business. To be honest, if your plan is to set up a basic page to point to your website, don't bother.

    Yep, like I said above;

    Facebook is a SOCIAL network. You can't really cut people off or you miss the point of it. All well and good to get fans or friends but if they can't comment on anything, you hurt yourself in the long run. Friends of theirs won't see that they have commented on a status and therefore, never see your page.

    pay per click targeted advertising to direct them to my website.

    as far as the social side of the wall its a business page and there are always going to be people with a bad attitude and too much time on their hands. thats not good for the bottom line.

    the lack of a customer support email is a big problem.

    In my experience facebook works really well in a B2C enviroment over B2B - you don't get friends, you get likes on a page. If you are looking to target a certain demographic you need to advertise to that demographic but beware all though facebook is free - your time is not and you need to be communicating with your audience on a regular basis. If you are looking to block comments then it's just one way communication - taking the 'social' out of social media.

    Setting up a fake page is a good idea to test
