Have you tried more than 1 game?
    Was it new/pre-owned?

Kind of sounds like you'll have to take it back tbh

    Its definitely a new PS3?
You're putting the games in the right way? Label up.
When you put the games in go to the game menu and start it from there. If that doesn't work try getting a lend of another game or going back to the shop and get them to try one of their games in it.

What game are you trying, are you sure it's not badly scratched or anything ?

Erm, it's definitely a ps3 disc your putting in right? Not, say, an xbox game disc you're using? There's a thread around here somewhere with that being the problem....

I suspect you are doing something wrong, its highly unlikely that 2 consoles have the exact same problem right out of the box.

it is a ps3 game? and it doesn't appear in the games column of the cross media bar? if you go into the settings section Yu'll find an option to automatically start a disc when you put it in, activate that and try again.

I rang the ps3 tech line this morning, after a few minutes they said to take it back, i found it very strange that this could happen with two of them, that said the two games i was using were new ps3 games, one of which i had played before on a friends ps3, i decided before taking it back to get another game and blu ray to make sure, and they worked so the good news is my ps3 is fine, the band news is my games are not, is it possible the first ps3 damaged them?!

I dont think so, are Blurays not "unscratchable" or was the Sony marketing hyping up the PS3 in the early days?

Thats bizarre, if the games worked on your friends Machine there is no reason why they shouldn't work on your's. I doubt very much that the first PS3 damaged them, if it did it should be very obvious, a scratch or something similar. Test them out on your mate's PS3 again to make sure perhaps. I think there must be something else that you and we haven't thought of. What are the two games that aren't working? Telling us the names might tip us off to something.

I bought a new 120gig slim a few weeks ago and had no hassle with it.

I agree with the above, bring it back asap.
