Went to change the brakes on the back of the golf today.

took outt the 2 8mm bolts and the caliper wont budge. The handbrake is no engaged .

how do i get enough space to remove the caliper from the disc?

    Thanks

Did you detach the handbrake cable from the caliper?

nope. did not need think i needed to as the was no tension on the cable. i could also see that the tab that the cable pulled was against the stopper. which means the cable was not putting pressure on the piston

It will still stop you from sliding the caliper off mate

dont see how though? maybe it pulls it when i move the caliper but i checked it.

It should just pull off, pull the hand brake and let it off again and try to remove the caliper.

To fit new pads you have to wind the caliper piston back in, you can pick up the tool to do this in most motor factors.

i know about the winding in alright but the problem is that i can loosen the caliper and the disc can rotate in the caliper but when it comes to pulling the caliper off it wont come away from the disc.

is there some way of reliving pressure in the piston so i can realese the caliper form the disc
