warped discs- damaged steering?

    I don't really know if I'm supposed to request access to the tech help forum for this kind of question or if it's just for DIYers or what but here goes.

    My current car is a '00 legacy b4 and when I got it, the discs were in absolute schyte. Every time you'd press the brakes, the steering wheel would vibrate badly. In fact, the whole car would vibrate. I obviously changed them straight away but I have no idea how long the previous owner had driven it like that.

    I do a good enough job of avoiding the badly fitted potholes but with the road surface taking a turn for the (even) worse (still), I'm noticing a lot of jostling/ rattling coming back through the steering wheel on rough surfaces at low speeds.

    I assumed that the rattling coming back through the steering was related to wishbone bushings or somthing like that but thinking about it now, having gotten a major service including new roll bar bushes, the mechanic passed the rest of the suspension. I then subsequently got new tyres so the car was tracked and the tyre guy didn't comlain about worn track rod ends.

    Obviously something is wrong but no mechanic bothered looking into it. In fact, I was told it was all perfect. Short of changing both wishbones and track rod ends blindly, is there any way of differentiating between steering and suspension rattles.

    I can't help but feel like the wobbly discs have taken their toll somehow.

    Hi,

    Have a look underneath while someone turns the steering wheel slightly back and forth. Check for movement in all joints and bushings. Also check the steering rack mounts.
    Also raise each front wheel and grab wheel firmly 12 and 6 o clock and check for play. Excessive play will indicate bearing problems.

    A few mechanics and tyre centres failed to detect worn inner tie rods on my car a few years ago. Even though I could easily feel it through the steering there was no recognisable play when doing the usual checks. It took the NCT's shaker plates to confirm my suspicions.
