Vista and 4gig of ram

    Hi Guys,

I run Vista 32bit home premium, I don't really have any problems with it. I decided to get an extra 2gig of ram to put in making 4gig total.

My bios detects 4096mb of ram and takes 896mb of that leaving 3200mb for windows.

Now when I boot into windows, the system information says:
    Installed physical ram 4gb
    Total physical memory 2gb
    available physical memory 1.22gb

Does that mean that Windows knows I have 4gb of ram but will only use 2gb?

btw my graphics card is 320mb

32Bit OS'es can only ''see'' a max of about 3.25 GB of total system memory (this includes your GPU)

Upgrade to 64Bit and Windows will be able to ''see'' all your availble system memory.

But vista can "see" all 4gig, it reports 4gig installed, but that its only using 2gig of it.
A 32bit os can handle up to 4gig minus what the graphics card wants

Somewhat off. Vista 32bit can recognise that 4 gig is physically present. Any device, not just video card, that needs address space will reserve memory addresses starting at the 32bit limit and working downwards. Vista can not access that space under whatsoever. So 2gig's gone and only 2gig's left for Windows to use.
