How much longer will Avatar be in the cinema? I've been leaving it on the long finger but from what I've heard about it I'll never forgive myself if I miss it!

Avatar is a fantastic movie experience, especially in 3D. Every dollar of the budget is on-screen and it is beautiful. Go and see it as soon as you can.

I don't know how much longer it will last but there are still crowds coming out of the Avatar screens in my local cinema so it could be there til the end of the month!

Its 4 months in the cinema and still packing people in, thats quite an achievement, it'll probably be on blu-ray and still showing in the cinema at the rate

I was in the same situation as you were a week or two ago. I then realised that even though the plot didn't appeal to me at all (dances with smurfs anyone?), I only wanted to go for the gimmick value of the 3d so I just said feck it, I don't really care anyway.

Its winding down now, as not every screen can show 3D and Alice In Wonderland 3D will have picked up many of Avatars 3D screens.

I left it late too. Finally going tomorrow i think. I know the omniplex in Santry, Dub have it listed for this week anyways. A mate went to it last week there and wasn't that busy.

vue in liffey valley have two shows everyday this week before going to one at 9pm for next week by the looks of things so if your in that area youve got that time at least.

TBH i seen it in 2d first before christmas and went last week to see it in 3d and i have to admit it does add to the experience. the immerision really does work and it helps cameron avoids the normal bollocks of throwing things at the screen.

its really a very subtle use of 3D , more done to pull you in. the subtitles seemingly floating outside the screen for instance and the scenes where the general is breifing the troops at the human base stick in my mind.

im not one of those thats really mad about 3d (mainly as i wear glasses and its a bollocks to fit the 3d glasses over my normal set properly to get the effect. in fact if youve any kind of eye complaint the whole things a bust) but avatar is a rare example of how it should be done if your going to.

have to say i was kinda surprised how much of the film you could watch without the glasses. normally 3d films are a blurr fest without em.

at the showing i went to there was about 6 people max.

long story short it IS worth seeing it, if just for the fact its done well. :)

Anyone seen this in 2D? How was it?

I'd highly recommend going with as many people as you can to the 3D showing. It really hinges on 3D and the visuals; the spectacle!

I wish somebody told me that (here comes a generalization of the movie)
Avatar is a 3-hour long children's film with a clearly defined simple message. It's not heavy on action either.

If your in county Kildare OP, UCI Newbridge have one 3D showing at 9PM and 3 2D showings throughout the day, tomorrow and Thurs. Then from Fri onwards, just one showing a day, 9.15PM in 3D. If you can at all OP go and see it in 3D, the effects are amazing.

I have to disagree with the above. I've worn glasses for years and I'm a computer programmer by trade so my eyes are probably not in great shape but I had no issues enjoying the movie in all its 3D glory. The glasses themselves were easy enough to fit over my regular glasses.

Really uninteresting. Its abundantly clear the movie is relying on stunning visuals to paper over a very average story. This is not the right thread to go into it, but the story was a cliché and the acting wooden.

I havent seen it in 3D.

It's a cinematic spectacle! Yea, the story is a naff but every cent of that budget is visually justified on that screen in 3D.

It was my 1st 3D film but I found it easy enough for my eyes to adjust, and my eyes wouldn't be grade-A either!
