I think if i was to try to start something like this, advertising it would be the key to start, post a notice in the local libraries and in local publications, preferably free ones. The more its in the public eye the more likely it is people will join up.Having members who are willing to actively participate and contribute to such meetings is essential.Hopefully your group will be a success, best of luck with it.

An excellent response for our 1st Meeting, hopefully we can maintain the momentum and drive forward.Amazing the amount of knowledge and family history there was in 1 room, and a wide range of areas of interest, from Ancient Military History through Medieval, Peninsular Wars, 1st and 2nd World Wars and our own War of Independence,to the Civil War.
Some of the family history told on that night leads me to conclude that there is a lot more yet to be told when Society Members get to know each other better, already I feel most of us entered the Meeting as strangers, and emerged, if not as friends yet, well certainly a long way down that road, and I know that we have some very interesting times ahead and I for one look forward to them immensely.
Tom Burnell, the Author of "Tipperary War Dead" and came from Thurles to attend, will be our 1st Speaker at the next Meeting.
That Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 20th April at 8pm in Slievenamon Golf Club.
It would be appreciated if we could spread the word to the rest of the Members that our email address is southtippmilitaryhistory@hotmail.com and if Members could send a quick Hello email so we can have their addresses on file for future reference.
