If RUSE uses Ubisoft's new DRM, I definitely won't be buying this.

I hear even the bloody demo will require it.

theres too many people pointing out how stupid is that system , i say the time this game will came out they change their mind unless they like to play blind game.
go to Ubi forums.. people going ballistic about it,
are you going for that beta tomorrow?

Plan to - have it downloaded.

Adamant about not buying it though if that DRM is there, even though I've been looking forward to this since it was announced.

It will use the new DRM. Shame.

Yeah, when I saw the Ubisoft logo appearing upon startup of the beta I realised I wouldn't be buying this. Just from a practical point of view, my internet connection's too flakey to think I could tolerate the DRM.

Besides, I'm not impressed with any game that causes a Core Dump / Blue-Screen-of-Death just because I set the video settings too high. Low FPS is the usual result, not crashing the entire OS.

As for the game, I haven't really played much of it to form an opinion yet. The interface & production values seem quite high & pretty slick. I like how you can play as the minor nations of ww2, makes a refreshing change to play as France & tootle around in their awesome tanks. Is there a tutorial available for this beta? I wasn't sure what I was doing half the time.

played yesterday, didnt had any problems with it , probably there something wrong with your sys and game just showed that problem.

but to me honest? i didnt like it so much , graphic is great and all of that, but game is to simple, it comes to who can produce more and quicker. no strategy , another rts with different point of view.. :(

I think a big problem is the map size in the beta. Using some of the distraction RUSE abilities might play a bigger role in a larger map. It's a very polished game, although I would niggle about the vehicles moving a bit too fast.

Is the tutorial in game? I'm sure I sound intensely noobish here, but I can't see it for the life of me. I am enjoying the game, although the easy AI is killing me every time.

Me and a friend have been totally dominating in 2v2 online now for the past few days, 18 win steak at the moment lol...

Anyway the game is good fun. Had some very interesting battles that went back and forth, one minute seemed like we were about to win, the other guys totally turn it around and it felt like we were about a minute from being totally wiped out, only for a small opening to form that allowed us to turn the game totally around yet again.

I never really encountered such dynamic battles in an RTS before. While I'm not a massive RTS player, I've experience. Played RA2 online , Generals online, supcom online.
& my friend as next to no online RTS experience.
Unfortunately the last few battles we've had were straight forward walk overs. We were looking forward to more back and forth battles but we're playing a lot of people that still don't really use much strats.

Anyway, no , when we first started playing it seemed it was all about the tank rush, but we knew this wouldn't last long , was just a matter of understand the other units. Inf seemed useless.

Now early game inf is very important, they can capture bases, hide in trees and launch surprise attacks.

The game is very much about controlling as much as the map as you can. If you have the year set to 1942 or 45 you can build more HQ's so you wanna push out with secondary bases and try and control as much of the map and supplies as possible.

    USE THE TREES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AT cannons in trees wipe out tanks like they're nothing. You can put aa guns in there too, which can fire at ground targets also.

I'll be almost straight away sending a few inf around the back of the guys base. ONE inf squad can turn the tide of a battle if the guy has no defenses at the back.

He'd be sending swarms of tanks out to me, all of which get raped by AT cannons in the trees. & then my inf come around and capture his barracks. I'll make more inf from there and take his whole base from behind him.

Meanwhile my mate rains down hell with artillery. Protected by his own combination of inf , AT and AA cannons in the trees.

People who try and build a nice tidy little base in the corner of the map die fast. We almost always have a base on the front lines, and then a number of back up bases behind. Thus we have control of most of the supplies behind the lines. While eejits in the corners have nothing.

Make use of ruses, early game blitz, camo nets on your buildings can be really annoying for the enemy. Terror can do a great job of getting a potentially deadly force of enemy units to start running away a lot quicker. & propaganda can help give that last push to your inf as they a few inches away from taking an enemy base under heavy fire.

    TLDR?

    Respect and Fear Arty.

    Respect and Fear inf.

    Use the trees.

    Build secondary HQ's

    Control the map.

Cheers, I found it; I now have a good understanding of how to go about the game. It feels very arcade'y in places, although there is a good amount of depth once you start playing with it properly. I haven't really used the "RUSE" powers, so can't comment how effective they are in a real game.

Sorry but if one's system isn't up to it, you shouldn't get a damned STOP error & your entire OS crash back to the boot screen. My machine's beginning to show its age, but even so: previous attempts to stretch itself have just resulted in a single figure FPS, not a BSOD. Fleh I say!

You're right, it is my PC, so I do know that it's running 100% healthy at the moment  No problem with the hardware or the software. I never discount a hardware configuration causing a game problems, but again, rarely a full BSOD.

ANYWAY, the beta; I throttled the settings back - though in fairness, does anyone actually play this zoomed in? I have spent most games zoomed half-to-all the way back. It's just easier that way to see everything & once the games get going, there's too much going on to spend it zoomed in, admiring the graphics.

zoomed all the way in is just there for enjoying the replays :p Or reminding you that little icon is indeed an entire squad of inf.

Still the game does not seem very resource heavy at all, what are you specs man? It'd have to be an old enough machine if its having that much trouble.
