Usually getting out of pain will not cost that much maybe 50-150 euros max (first stage root canal or simple extraction). Only the complex reconstructive work is that costly. I suppose John has to prioritize whats important - life without pain or holiday money.

Yes the PRSI is a disgrace, make a fuss, write to your local TD dont just take it on the chin. PRSI is just another tax without benefit for most.

I just send a message to Soc and Family Affairs complaining....come on everyone!!

Fitgeme, can I ask what you mean by first stage root canal? I though it all
had to be completed in quickly planned stages?

    Hi,

men are terrible for looking after themselves and the moaning about the pain! I know from experience!

Extractions would cost approx 70-90, this is not a lot when you consider the pain he is in. He needs it done, how would he enjoy a holiday in pain!

With regard to the root canal treatment Lzzie, It is usually done over 1 or 2 vists that are a few weeks apart. It can be done over a longer time as long as the tooth is weel sealed or filled between visits. Often, if the tooth is very infected it needs some time to resolve before finishing so this may mean that you would need to wait but usually it is done fairly quickly

    Lizzie,
to answer your question a bit better, a first stage root canal is the stage where the infection and remaining tissue is cleaned from the inside of the roos and the roots are disinfected. The second stage is filling up the root canal space to stop re-infection

    Thanks Daydreamer

That answers my question fine..I am finished stage one and on Wed I go
back for the second ap....I have a temporary crown in place so I suppose I will
have the filling put in and left before I get crown under way just I was told
the crown might come off causing a problem but so far so good just a matter of paying
    the money.

The other questionable tooth may be assessed and treatment recommended in the near future
but maybe I get a chance to save a bit more!!

Thats 90 euro + travel + time off work  I think there are 20 dentists within a ten minute drive of anywhere in the republic that would do an exam, x-ray, consultation and extraction for 90 euro or less. And if you have PRSI coverage and havent been to the dentist in a year it will only cost the price of the extraction.
