    Hello all,

Need to get a used car. Interested in getting a small diesel car that will take advantage of the low road tax based on low emissions. Am I restricted in terms of the age of same car?. For example can I buy say a 2005 car and tax it at 150 Euro if that is the class it falls into in terms of emissions?.

If not what year car can I go for and any opinions as to what car might be a best buy at the moment. Engine size needs to be 1.4 max.

    Thanks in advance, L91.

    2008 or later.

if the car is registered before 2008.. you have to pay on engine size.. CO2 doesnt come into it....

if the car is registered after 2008, then you are charged based on your CO2 output, regardless of engine size...

A pre 08' 1.4 car will be circa €333 per annum to tax.

I wouldn't be too concerned about road tax TBH, with a small engine it's only a tiny part of the annual cost of running a car.

Jeez many thanks all for the quick replies!.

That clears it up for me 2008 or later then. Any idea on what diesel small car to go for in terms of value?. Don't have a big budget, can spend maybe up to 9K.
