I Witnessed an Accident This Morning!

    Hi guys,

I witnessed what has to be one of the most stupid things ever this morning!

There was a truck pulled up on the footpath outside a petrol station/Centra in Thurles this morning. Let's call this Truck A. Lads were unloading chocolate/drinks etc from this one, that's fine. Another truck parked up on the footpath directly opposite. Let's call this Truck B. As I got closer, the lad in Truck B suddenly bullied his way into traffic crossing my lane to get into the opposite one. In the process, he didn't look into any mirrors and crushed a Ford Focus (which had right of way) between his own truck and Truck A. Even though the Focus was there being crushed, the driver of Truck B was oblivious to this! He had to be told what was happening before he copped on!

Thankfully, he pulled into the petrol station and didn't do a runner and no one was hurt.

When you say "crushed", do you mean "dented"?

Afraid not! The force was so strong it actually crushed the back of the car and shattered the rear windscreen.

Wow, pretty scary for the driver of the Ford I'm sure.

Yeah, she pulled in directly ahead of the unloading truck, got out and walked around the car to see the damage. She wasn't too shaken as far as I could see.

Must be common down there :p

Well, at least no one was hurt. It really was a stupid thing to happen alright.

See, people have to be more careful on the road & not be bothered about getting somewhere on time. Imagine there was a child in the back seat & was killed. This makes my stomach sick to think of irresponsible drivers on the road like this. I'm glad no one was hurt. It could have been so much worse.

What about both trucks being illegially parked on the footpath while loading/unloading? Surely a petrol station would have some sort of car park/loading bay or what's the law governing loading/unloading if there is no pull in area, is parking on the footpath acceptable? Anyway when illegially parked you'd think the truck driver in question would be extra viligint when pulling out, begs the question as to why he has a professional license and whether he should get a periodic ban and have to resit his test.

Totally unrelated to motors ...but what is it with the "somebody pleeeez think of the tildren" thingy?

Why do I have to imagine children getting killed everywhere? Would the accident be less stupid/severe/dramatic if it was grumpy, 45 year old me getting killed instead? As in dead, like ...properly ...not just imagined.

I for one value my life somewhat higher than that of imaginary children

There have been a lot of times in sligo where numerous trucks were parked on the footpath outside of the Petrol station on the Bundoran road and there have been a few fatal accidents there with cars trying to exit the station & don't see cars coming because the trucks were blocking the view. They have bollards outside now & been accident free since thank god.

There could have been a car-jacker in the back seat who got killed.
Good thing, because he was going to kill the driver and take over the city...

There's a similar place at Merlin Hospital where tons of accidents happen because of the planning of the intersection and that people just pull out into traffic for some reason.

Maybe it's intentional, creating business for themselves.
