    The Telephone.

Whoopi Goldberg in the lead role, and it was so bad that she tried to block it from ever being released

If you can read this, you're too close!

+1 for The Spirit, it is truly the most abysmal, ham-fisted piece of film-making this side of Ed Wood. How Frank Millar, someone I already classed as over-rated as a writer, managed to blag his way into directing that movie I will never understand. It's not even worth experiencing as a so-bad-it's-good film. It's just bad.

Contact - shoddily written dialogue, ridiculously stupid plot, subpar acting.
Crash - the car crash/sex movie - just awful in every way

The best so bad they're good double bill has to be The Arrival 1 and 2.

The first one couldn't be worse, or so you think... The second one has a plot that ONLY makes sense if you are extremely familiar with the first one, it loses it star power and it's budget.... And yet it still trys (and fails hilariously) to be a HUGE scifi flick.

If you like mocking movies, check these out!

    Another +1 for the Spirit.

I don't use this a lot but it is nauseatingly bad. You know that feeling you get when you fall asleep on a car journey and then you wake up and the sun is beating down on your forehead through the window, well that's the feeling I got from the Spirit, it is like it is lulling you into a stupor

    Les vacances de Monsieur Hulot

I watched this one purely as I heard it was one of the influences behind PT Andersons Punch-Drunk Love (which no doubt will get nominated on this thread as a result of me mentioning it). Anyway, Hulot is meant to be a comedy but I just spent the entire 90 minutes completely perplexed as sequence after sequence of physical farce played itself out infront of my inceasingly bored mind.

Hulot is basically Mr. Bean only less funny (yes I found out to my cost that somehow that is actuallypossible ). I think I'll go as far as to say it's the worst film I've ever seen. There's absolutely nothing redeeming about it.

Contact was not a bad movie. It had some great moments. The ten minute interstellar sequence at the start is truly mind boggling.
It had some inept moments too which put somewhat of a damper on it.
For example, the over emphasis on religious impact of extra-terrestrial contact. Only people who believe in God are allowed to go on the journey,. and the inclusion of Bill Clinton as an actor during his stint in the White House. Very tacky. The ending was a bit of a cop out too. It was as if they ran out of money and couldn't stretch to doing the alien planet.

Shocked at some of the choices here to be honest.

The Proposition is hugely underrated imo. A far superior film to the other big western of that year 3:10 to Yuma. I can't understand how anyone would tell someone to avoid that at all costs.

Contact is no masterpiece but it is a decent sci fi with some interesting concepts.

Agreed on the Epic Movie choice. A few of my mates were watching it while I was browsing the net and it was painfully bad. How a movie with such a dreadful script gets made is beyond me. I'm not exaggerating when I say write a movie ten times better than that tripe.

Here are some of my choices:
Dude, Where's My Car. (I want that 90 minutes back)

How High. (Meth and Red should stick to the rapping)

It's Complicated (Had the entire plot worked out 15 minutes in)

Death Proof (Tarantino wallowing his self indulgent ****)

American Psycho 2 (haven't even seen it, mate watched it and said it was the most repulsive movie he had ever seen.)

I would definitely have to second G.I. Joe, terrible film. It's now a lot of people's guilty pleasure it would seem, but realistically this is ott rubbish. Terrible plot, terrible script, shiny, slick and corporate. You will feel dirty after 30mins...

I have to throw in 28 Days with Sandra Bullock and Viggo Mortensen.
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0191754/
Can't remember much of it these days, but its the one film I do remember where my ass went numb in the cinema watching it, and I was screaming inside for it to end.

    The Happening... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0949731/
What a load of crap, not much to say on this one, except terrible acting by people that can do better. I left this one actually puzzled at how bad it was.

It is pretty awful but it does have watch-value for Mila Kunis. That said tho it's links to the original are tenuous - much like Starship Troopers 2 which was almost an entirely different movie. Come to think of it was there even any bugs in ST2?

Marie Antionette. This movie has no genre, it is not funny, dramatic or remotely entertaining and it is about time Sofia Coppola is put down.

Duplicity. Watched it (well half of it) on sky with the gf until she, thankfully, insisted on turning it off in favor or stabbing our faces with pitch forks (which would be less painful).

"Batman and Robin" gets my vote. Clooney and Thurman managed to sink this one. TBH the Batman series got a bit ropey after Joel Schumacher came on board. Thank Christ they got a second bite of the cherry with Chris Nolan's rebooted series.

Hopefully Superman will get the movie he deserves one day as well, the last one was ok albeit a tad dull in parts.

American Haunting - I remember it ending in the cinema & thinking "That's it ..?"

Can I suggest we add a couple of rules to this thread?

The first being that you cant post the name of a movie without giving a reason. Otherwise the only people who know why you are saying that movie is people who have already seen it, and if people have already seen it, then there is no need to tell them to avoid at all costs.

The other suggestion I would make is no blanket-generalizations.
anything Michael Bay has ever done or is that too vague?

I am not a massive Fan of him, and he is hated by many for what he did to Transformers, but you cant say all his movies should be avoided at all costs.

For example, Pearl Harbour. Yes it was long, and the romance stuff got annoying, but it also has in my opinion some of the best aerial battle scenes since Top Gun.

Another example is The Rock. Its not an epic masterpiece, but its still a reasonably entertaining action flick. To say it should be avoided at all costs is a bit of an exaggeration.

I can think of very few movies that I would say avoid at all costs because people have different opinions of movies. That said, I can't imagine why anyone would want to watch any of the Leprechaun movies. A psychopathic Leprechaun goes on the rampage in search of his gold. Mindless, ridiculous, just plain Daft.

    District 9.
Oooh - a controversial entry that one.

Were it not for the main actor in it being a complete tool I'd have liked it a little more than I did.

    +1 for The Spirit

Unfortunately I bought this on BluRay last summer because it was €9.99 thinking it would be like Sin City.........d'oh!

It is terrible on ever level, the acting, the script, the 'humour'.......a total car crash of a movie! Not even Eva Mendez's fine ass could save this turkey!

Other movies to avoid would be:

    Gigli
    The Exorcism of Emily Rose
    Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever
    Catwoman
and ALL of Adam Sandlers films

It's not even her ass either iirc.

Apparently they got a 'stunt-ass' for the more impressive shots.

I've only seen Leprechaun 4: In Space. With a name like that I thought it would be so bad it's good. It was so bad it was utter ****.

This kind of list thread is exactly what I've grown to hate about this forum. We have a op asking a stupid question and giving no input of his own followed by people saying the first thing that comes to mind.

There is no such thing as a film which must be avoided at all costs. We need bad films, they allow us to enjoy a good film that little bit more. No one expects Oscar winning material from a film such as Shark in Venice or Snakes on a Plane, what they expect and receive is 90 odd minutes of B movie fun which can easily be digested with a pizza and beer on a slow evening.

If people want to give a film they find dreadful and encourage others to avoid perhaps then they could at least give a reason. Saying all Michael Bay films are to be avoided is crap, he has made some of the most entertaining action films of the past two decades, The Rock is modern masterpiece and before anyone argues otherwise Criterion saw fit to add it to their list of greats alongside Armageddon.

Two of the sh1ttest films i've seen in recent years, and unfortunately I've seen both in the last couple of weeks:

Gamer (how has this escaped a mention yet - or is everyone else lucky enough to have not seen it?)

    The Watchmen
