Noticed that on mine. Black so it shows it worse. I was driving down the country over the weekend and there is a lot of dust on some of the roads. Is this the remnants of all the salt during the cold spell?

Could be salt too I guess, but Ive seen a car parked up for over 6 weeks covered in the same dust. Could still be just carrick as we have loads of road works going on and on and on !!

True. I got hit with the dam gritters in traffic enough times

It was on m7/9 south bound that i drove through a dust cloud on road. Still cars in my place in Dublin are covered in the sandy stuff so maybe...

The fact that it coated a stationary vehicle now leads me to think its some European or saharan crap laid down in the last weeks frosts.

it makes no difference here in the county, muck is holding the cars together.

We have the worst (potholed, badly drained, etc) road network in the world, why do you blame the Sahara for dirtying your car?

Disagree with you on that one, Ireland has better Motorways than Germany and also in alot of cases better national roads too.

I can hardly see out the back window these days with all the filth the car gathers. Work in Cherrywood Ind est and between the large tracts of exposed earth and Luas works there is a fine layer of crap covering the car every day

    Taking the piss?

    Nope,

Both autobahn that I take have potholes, strips in them. Road drainage is aboslutely shocking hard to see anything when its raining due to mist being created from the roads. Hitting 1 or 2 inches of water while going high speed on the autobahn is a common occurence.

The Cities are worse, chunks missing out of the road, bumps and strips of tar everywhere and thats in the big cities, small towns are even worse than that.

Theres a town in Germany now selling potholes, i.e. you donate money and you get the pothole filled with your name on it.

Dutch roads by comparison are Silky smooth, excellent road drainage and maintenence, very few potholes.

You'll see very very few (usually foreign cars) running on low profiles in Germany, they'd last about 10 minutes before you have a wrecked tyre and cracked alloy.

Everytime I got back to Ireland the N and M roads are lightyears ahead of the German roads i drive on.

Washed the car on the weekend and noticed the same reddish brown dust. Live in D24 and mainly drive around south/west dublin. Was stubborn to get off

I might notice if my car was not covered in a large amount of saw dust from my neighbours cutting down all of there bushes. My car is now this odd brownie black colour!
