    i planted about 50 pansies last april/may. will they come again this year or do they only last one year.

    Pansies are "half-hardy", this means that they will survive a "normal" Irish winter.

    Unfortunately this was not a normal Irish winter, if they are in a sheltered area they'll come back, otherwise this winter may have killed them.

    That said, they do seed about the place, and so you may get seedlings this year even if they got hammered by the cold.
