So I have an external hard drive and I`m trying to use it to watch HD movies on the playstation. The problem is the playstation won`t even recognise the thing. It`s a 320gb Western Digital that uses NTFS format.

So I researched online and I saw that if you make certain folders on your hard drive the ps3 will recognise them(videos, pictures etc),still no joy. I saw something about re-formating the drive to a FAT32 format, but FAT32 format only supports files less than 4gb(HD movies are more).

Has anyone tried the reformating thing? What should I do?

    Thanks

You need to reformat the HD to FAT32 as that is all the PS3 supports. It sucks but it offers the greatest compatibility.

If you want to watch files larger than 4GB then you need to stream videos from your PC. This is actually very easy to do. TVersity and PS3 Media Server are the two most popular programs.

PS3 Media Server is the one I use myself. Just install it onto your PC, there's no configuration necessary. Leave the program running, fire up your PS3 and that's more or less it.

Cool looks like I`ll reformat them so. Will the movies stream ok over a wireless connection? No choppyness etc?

It does depend. Wireless G (54Mbps) is fine for standard video but if you want to watch HD files then you will really need to upgrade your network to Wireless N (150Mbps or 300Mbps).
