Plugging turntable into speakers.

I recently got myself an old stanton turntable and as of now, the only speakers that I have are 5.1 speakers for the laptop which I cant use for the turntable given that the woofer is the amp for them.

So basically, what can I do now? Will I have to go out and buy an amp and a set of speakers?

You're probably gonna need some type of pre-amp for the turntable

Get a two-bit broken old dj mixer off a friend, with a phono input still working in it, it'll boost the phono up to line level for you.

Or, as stated, get a dedicated phono pre-amp.

    Latter is a better option.

Here's the cheapest, dirtiest one I could find in under thirty seconds:

You'd probably pick up a 2 channel mixer on adverts.ie for €30 or less.

If you're in Dublin I have a knackered old Vestax mixer I'll give you for nowt, you wouldn't be able to mix with it because the faders are all ****ed, but you could definitely get sound going through it....
