Anyone else signed up for this? Background reading has explained who the random people with yellow t-shirts with skull+crossbones are that I've seen at other races. I'm getting scared, looks like this one is a popular race for the pirates! :D

I too in a fit of 'well the scenery will be nice' have signed up for this. Just looking to get around the course in any sort of time, I hear it is quite hard and I am really not looking forward to the run course, think I may have plenty of time to take in the views.

Hey ZZJ! It will be fine. That's my mantra and I'm sticking to it. But maybe I'm just in denial! I'll be at the back of the pack, that's for sure :)

My training hasn't quite gone to plan--longest runs haven't been especially long and are still mostly on flat grass after a spate of running problems, and I'm not all that fast on the bike. Sill; finishing a HIM is the main goal for the year, once I get across the finish line it will be PB :pac:

Three weeks to go! (oh crap..)

What a great race, nice part of the world, nice crowd and even bumped into quite a few paddys.

Really enjoyed the race and achieved my goals (main one, make it to the end)

Swim was fine, stayed at the back at the start, decided getting into a nice rhythm early was more important than getting into the hitting and slapping. Water was a bit shallow in places.

Bike was a really nice course, lots of support along the way from tourists.

Run was a killer but they always are for me

Very well run even and I now have a new towel.

    Might go back next year

    Hey ZZJ, nice work :)

I'd a great day out too; Bala was well organized and drew a great group of competitors and support. I'll definitely be back for this one, it was much more fun than I expected (given its reputation)!

The swim was great and I managed to find a few legs going at the right speed to draft off. It did get pretty shallow at the exit and was a pain trying to swim right in close to the jetty, but I'd jumped in for a quick splash on saturday evening so knew what to expect. The cycle wasn't as bad as I was expecting (I had myself all set for utter pain on the hills--in the end I was 30mins faster than I'd budgeted!), and the hill up to the turning point during the run was just plain evil. Pirates made me smile and I got chatting with a couple of people during the run which somehow distracted me from what I was expecting to be the worst part of the day.

The towel instead of a technical thsirt was a nice surprize. Already looking forward to going back and getting a decent time on the course.
