I know their is only a handful there, but what role have they there ? I don't think they have combat/front line duties, are they invovled in logistics and that sort of thing ?

]he seven Irish personnel, comprising 4 Officers and 3 Non Commissioned Officers, serving with the force are currently located in the two ISAF Headquarters in Kabul. The Irish personnel work in staff appointments in planning and administrative roles.

Purely an admin role................unless the camp gets hit up, then obviously all hand on deck.

while the Irish personnel do all work in ISAF HQ in Kabul and have significant caveats placed upon their deployment, it would be wrong to believe they all work in such exciting roles as G9 (Paperclips and Staples), or S17 (Press-cuttings (good) and Toilet roll (soft)).

the Irish personel are directly, personally - if not physically - involved with ISAF operations against the Taleban, some are also involved with political/humanitarian/CIMIC work.

The above article should help explain what they're doing over there.
