I drive a 02 Audi A4 Tdi, and was just wondering if anyone could tell me what a symbol that shows an arrow going in an anti-clockwise circle, with a triangle and exclamation mark in the middle??

The car only passed it's NCT on Friday last week (9 days ago), and the symbol came on 2 days later (on the Sunday)..... It has gone on and off a few times since, but not every time I drive the car. Car seems to be driving fine........

    Any help appreciated.........

That's the warning light for your traction control system.

    This light:

    From another website:

"What does the symbol on the audi a4 dashboard mean. it is a arrow going in a circle with an exclamation mark in the middle?"

"Could mean many things, but is definitly related to the braking system. You would need to bring your vehicle to a audi dealership for them to check the abs codes."
    ;)

Thanks for the replies!! At the risk of sounding like a typical female driver, what is 'esp'?

That symbol view profile has pointed too is the handbrake light, but when its on and the handbrake is off it can mean that:
    1. your brake fluid is low
    2. your brake pads are worn out.
There's probably more too but start by checking the brake fluid

ESP is traction control, stops you skidding. But if it was the ESP light it would flicker off and on when ever it cut in.

The symbol in post no. 5 is not the one the OP is referring to. THe OPs symbol is the one relating to the esp (electronic stabillity program).
This would need to be checked on diagnostic computer to see what the fault is. It will be fine to drive although Im unsure whether the abs brake function will be affected with this problem

    ESP = Electronic Stability Program

It's Audi's name for the generic term ESC (Electronic Stability Control), which is an electronic system that monitors things like the brakes, traction control, steering and vehicle movement to reduce the possibility of skids and loss of control.

OP: is this the symbol you're seeing?:

As far as I can remember, the ESP light is orange, so it denotes something that needs attention but isn't 'mission critical', unlike red lights which generally mean 'stop now'.

The symbol should come on during start-up and go out once the engine is running, and will flash when the system is intervening to do its job; ie. in the event of a skid or other loss of traction/control.
It shouldn't be coming on otherwise, so it would be best to take it to a dealer who'll plug in the diagnostic machinery to see what's happening.

If the ESP light is staying on it could be anyone of a number of faults,it could be a wheels speed sensor to your MAF (if a car goes into limp mode the ESP light will light up) Only way to know for sure is get it scanned by someone with the proper diagnostic equipment or god forbid an Audi dealer! :D

Car is perfectly safe to drive,ABS should work fine once your ABS light is not on,that will be an orange light saying 'ABS'

Possible easy way to find out if it is a problem or just a mistake.

There is an ESP button on the Audi dashboard above the radio. Press this and see if the light switches off.

However, if it does not then seek out an Audi repair garage.

    Yep, that's it!!

Think I will call to a mechanic friend of mine tomorrow and get it checked to be on the safe side. Thanks everyone for your help!!

Thought of that too Berty but the statement below from the OP makes me think its not so simple.
