I no longer play rugby, but play football , I 'm in bits today after a very physical game, reminds me of the pain I used to feal after rugby - sometimes took 3 to 4 days to fully recover - I wonder how Paul O'Connell and BOD must feal after very physical games - do you let nature take its natural slow recovery or take the likes of Solpadeine and other pain killers to ease the physical hangover of brutal games -

I've never taken pain killers just for the general aches and pains (too much of a man ;)).

What I do is take a very cold bath. It's horrible at the time, but its amazing how much it helps. Professionals take ice baths and get proper massages to ease the pain, but I'm not that hardcore or rich enough to indulge in either.

Used to do the same thing. A cold bath the night after a match was absolute heaven.

If I'm ever in bits after exercise, I tend to use an ice cold bath or head into a freezing plunge pool, and then a hot shower or sauna or whatever.

It's just a general extension of the principle of putting ice on an injury.
