MMA League Galway 2010 Results

MMA League Galway is now in the books! A tremendous kick off to the League in 2010 saw clubs from all over the country descend on the Kingfisher sports hall in Galway for the first instalment of amateur MMA action this year. 125 fighters in total took to the mat to net themselves some point on the league tables and start working into the coveted top four places in each division that will qualify them for the finals in Dublin at the end of the year.

The standard was up again this year, and the teen divisions showed remarkable improvement, its going to be a very competitive year all around!

As always the League could not have happened without the invaluable help of the following people -
Jim, Ger, Dermot and Damien for refereeing and calling it straight down the middle all day
Ollie and Darragh for keeping the event running smoothly and with a minimum of delays
Vinny from Fightlord for his constant support and supplying record number of people with groin guards and gum shields at this event!
Vinny presented submission of the day award to Ryan Curtin of Spartan MMA Northside for his amazing flying arm bar.
Lastly but certainly not least are all the competitors and coaches who made the trip to Galway for the event, without your continued support the League would not be still going.

The League returns on Saturday the 12th of June to the Kingfisher in Galway, my apologies to the faithful supporters of the League in Limerick, but it has become increasingly difficult to arrange a venue, mats and everything else, to the point that going back there this year became impossible. On the flip side the Kingfisher is an amazing venue and a great place to host this event.

I still intend moving the League around again, but Limerick had too many roadblocks this year unfortunately.

We look for host counties constantly, so if you want the League in your town, drop me an email on info[at]mmaleague [dot] com and we can see about running a round there.

Hopefully the League will be back in Kilkenny again, but hopefully some other areas like Carlow or Waterford will be interested in holding one.

The main requirements for being an eligible League venue is that it be easily accessible from all areas of the country. The league has fighters from as far apart as Donegal, Derry, Cork, Galway, Dublin, Antrim and Wexford.
I wouldn't try and hold an event in Donegal as it would make life so difficult for those in the south and the reverse holds true.

Sorry I missed that in your original post(skipped right to the results). No im a bit further south, in Waterford.

The extra distance is a pain but you're doing a bang up job with the events so far, so I can't begrudge you saving yourself the headache of trying to organise an event somewhere that has proved difficult in the past.

The Kingfisher is a great venue. That St Andrew's is a bit of a dump. (forgive me Dave)

Is the UCD no good? I remember doing judo there in the past and its a nice spot.

I think its a good idea to keep it between Dublin and Galway. Ok its a long journey for us but they are pretty central for all.


Again its great to see the teenage section growing.

Its probably the registration for this last one that you clicked on. The next one isn't until June so I don't think Mark opened up registration for it yet.

The MMA League is very popular. The fact this one and the one in June are in Galway could be a bit confusing if you didn't know.
