They were always gonna score, hit the woodwork 5 times ffs, if i had money in any of my a/c's i would have thrown money on them to win when they were 2-0 down tbh.

Let this be a lesson OP.. There's no point risking your stake to make a fraction of it. Especially in soccer.. Sh*t happens, learn and move on!!! :D

Were you watching the game, i dont think anyone watching would have called a draw there no matter what, Madrid were all over them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,627 ✭✭✭Fol20

tbh i wasnt,,i was keeping tabs on the score and just thought it was a draw for so long, that they could get a last minute goal:(:(:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Hah you lost a punt, it happens all the time.

Dont bet if you dont cant cope with losing, simple as.

Youd be surprised though how many goals there is in the last few moments.

Sure odds at around the 87th minute of a game for the present result are still around 1.16 - 1.2 as an average and usually its wise money.

You can certainly make alot of money by backing at them prices if you have live television coverage and can cut out when there's a dangerous freekick, set piece etc but you dont wanna just chuck 120 quid on something without abit of thought especially for such measily return.

Oh ffs, I'm not an experienced gambler by any stretch but betting €120 on Real Madrid to draw at home, when you're not even watching the game is fúcking crazy.

I was about to say it was obvious you were watching it. Madrid hammered them, could have been 5,6 nil easily

it was a draw for so long? Madrid only equalized on about 70 mins...so it was only draw for about 20 mins

    lesson learnt then man

just try not think of all the thing you could have bought with that €120 :P

  • Moderators Posts: 8,754 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Then you shouldn't of made the bet, i'm also a student, i gamble thousands every few months, i win some i lose some. Discipline is the key and it'll come with time. I don't have much of it to be honest, or else i'd win more often but hey **** happens, move on.

na im not desperate..just like anyone that has lost money, you would like to recover some of the money...Just in my case...im not gonna touch another gambling site for at least a year

  • Moderators Posts: 8,754 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Well i wouldn't want to recover it of someone i don't know!.

Don't quit that easily, or else you'll never become a gambling addict like all of us here. :)

    Fol20.
It happens to us all, I lost €40 on ****ing betting on the ISEQ within about 5 minutes a few months ago.

You just move on, I know where you're coming from though, you feel awful.

Just have a think where your next €120 will come from and you'll be sound.

€120 is a pittance compared to others.
na im not desperate..just like anyone that has lost money, you would like to recover some of the money...Just in my case...im not gonna touch another gambling site for at least a year

Wrong attitude if you ask me in a way.
This may sound outrageous but you'll be able to build your €120 up in over a week of two if you keep track of some tipsters here (Including myself, had a 45/1 accum denied with 20 minutes to go, (1 team)) *cough*

Do a footballing treble every weekend and you'll be sorted in no time.
    Lesson learned, don't be greedy.

As the wise Warren Buffett once said :
"Be afraid when people are greedy, and greedy when people are afraid"

    You'll be sound man ;)

It can go the other way too, you were unlucky by the sound of it but if that upsets you you shouldn't really be gambling tbh.

  • Moderators Posts: 8,754 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Plus it was a stupid bet, would of been better to back Everton tomorrow @ 4/11.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Yeah, I lost €17 on a Utd, Barca, Madrid treble (fuckin Ibrahima-cunt). I'm on the dole. It sucks. Best for you to go to bed and you'll feel better tomorrow.

Good to know my contributions to Social Welfare in this land are ending up in the pocket of Paddy Power.

No wonder most people think that €197 isn't enough.

None of your business where it goes to be honest. If you don't like the social welfare system I'm afraid all you can really do is move out of the country.

The rate is too high for some too low for others. It is very hard to come up with a good system, much harder than it is to make an unimaginative forum post...

Look, if you can't get it around your head that you really should not be gambling whilst on the dole then I suspect you are somewhat detached from reality.

Your opinion is that one shouldn't gamble while on the dole, fair enough. Should one not eat any non-necessary foods like treats. Should one not have an alcoholic drink?
Is it painful to hear people shout down from their high horse their opinion on how another person should live their life?

    Dole = Food + Clothing + Shelter

Not intended for frivolous expenditure which gambling falls into. Drinking does too incidentally. That you can afford to gamble on the dole shows that the benefit is too much. If one reverts back to the actual proper title of the dole it's jobseekers benefit/welfare. You won't find a job in a bookies gambling.

Now hopefully that puts it in black & white for you and we can get back to the purpose of this thread which was the OP's bitching about losing money.

Some of the posters on this thread are a bookmakers wet dream.

    According to who though?
You clearly have a very steadfast opinion but do you need to butt in to a discussion on gambling to preach your narrowminded point of view?
What if the dole is something to allow people to maintain a somewhat enjoyable standard of living when unemployed? And just perhaps the person has enough clothes, spends 70 euro a week on food and water, and contributes say 50 quid a week to rent after their rent allowance. Now the rest could be seen as leisure money that we have decided as a society people who are unfortunate enough to be unable to find a job deserve. Now just perhaps one of their hobbies is gambling. Maybe then they should be allowed to gamble some of it? Or should they just spend it on your favourite hobby as you are so righteous and have the mystery of perfect behaviour apparently cracked.
Basically, maybe you should keep your opinions of people on the dole to yourself. It's an old debate and if i wanted to be involved in a debate on the dole itself i would have gotten involved with the numerous ones already running on this site. I haven't picked any side of the argument that you tried to raise. I have picked the point of view that your opinions can be kept to yourself and it was no business of yours to post your condescending comment on this thread.

I'd like to apologise for my part in dragging this thread far and away from it's initial topic.

Well my argument doesn't really fit too well into the economy and budget forum seeing as it is about people posting their condescending views on the dole in places it is not needed and whether that is acceptable behaviour. I don't take any side on dole debates. Maybe you should have posted on the ranting and raving forum.
One last thing. Your contributions to the dole will more than likely be used up on benefits for yourself and as such you are probably never going to contribute to anybody elses dole unless you run a company that pays a lot of tax, like Paddy Power I suppose. This point makes your original comment even more d***headish.
