+1 Contemplating whether to buy an iPhone or a Blackberry or indeed a Nokia Wifi enabled Handset. Neither are cheap though"!

I contemplated this for quite some time and bit the bullet last week and ordered from eBay.
Turns out to be one of the best transactions I've ever done on eBay, seller was helpful and keep me informed: sent me a tracking number, asked if I wanted it marked as a gift to avoid the revenue (got through without getting hit with a big bill!)
I ordered it from Hong Kong on a thursday and got it on the following tuesday. Best phone I've ever used and if your even thinking about getting one you should get one.
I paid €690 (80 more than O2)- but it is factory unlocked (put in my sim and hooked it up to iTunes and was greeted with "Your iPhone has been successfully unlocked" :):):) No jailbreaking and messing around to get it unlocked!!
I can pm you guys the link to the same seller if you wish?

Just shy of €700 for a phone that could be obsolete in 4 months, and would have to be returned to Hong Kong for a warranty repair if something goes wrong......I must be missing something here......

To be fair, the phone is just one constituent part of the device. There is a lot to be said for the rest of the feature set, such as internet browsing and media player that the device provides that is much better (arguably) than a lot of the competition.

I have one. Great? Yes. Worth €690? No.

It's not going to become obsolete just because a new version comes out - it will still work perfectly well. The 3G is still being sold alongside the 3GS, and chances are the 3GS will be sold along side the next upgrade.

Apple offer a world-wide warranty, so you could buy it in Outer Mongolia if you wanted - it's Apple you'd send it back to for repair.

Not true. Apple only repair the phone in the country its purchased. I bought a factory unlocked iPhone from Italy and I've read up about the warranty, and its not worldwide. So I'd have to send it back from an address in Italy and it would be returned to same address. I think this is the only product Apple dont cover worldwide.

I stand corrected. Apple offer a worldwide warranty on their computer products, but obviously the iPhone is a different beast.

    :eek::eek::eek:

€700 could have bought you a HTC Evo and you would have still had change left ofer.

    A 4.3" 480x800 pixel touchscreen with multitouch
8.1MP Main camera that can record in 720P with dual led flash
    1.3MP secondary camera
    1GHz Snapdragon CPU
    Android 2.1

And most importantly of all it's the world's first 4G phone.

Could I ask that people refrain from making posts that consist of "Please PM me the link".

It adds nothing to the discussion.

If you post the link, people can tell you if it looks legit or not.

Is this the site: http://www.sprintmediastore.com ?

If so, there's no physical address, no phone number, they only take wire transfer (basicaly, you're putting money directly into their bank account, and have no comback), and the price is too good to be true.

    Caveat emptor.

True with most technology, but Apple release new iPhones at the same time each year, and in the March before hand, they sell AT&T locked iPhones but without the contract to shift the stock before the new ones come in, which they just announced for this year about a week ago. If you can tell exactly when new tech will come out, you're wasting your money buying now. I agree though, if you were to just wait in hope, then yes, you would be waiting forever. But 3 months is not forever in this case

+1 was going to say the same thing. Bought an iPhone in Italy, has has stuck pixel up the very top that I noticed 5 days after buying it. Apple said they' replace it if I sent it to their Italy Department, which would in turn send it to cork and they would send it back to Italy. Stupid.

Well, I'm not going to say that without proof, but there's no way I would send money to someone's bank account when all I knew about them was an unverified email address.

They claim* they don't use "internet payments" because of security concerns. This is complete nonsense - they'd be covered for fraudulent purchases by using PayPal or Google Checkout, for instance. And their customers would be covered too. With Wire Transfer, you get no cover. The money goes out of your account and into theirs. As far as the banks are concerned, you've authorised the transfer and that's the end of the matter.

*See the post by "Sanjiv Chaudhary" on this thread.

Edit: in the email in the post linked above, they claim that the iPhone comes with a 1 year international warranty. As I was corrected on above, Apple don't offer an international warranty on the iPhone - it has to be returned to the country it was bought in.

Wht didn't you save your 80 euro, buy a pre-pay one form the O2 shop, unlock it yourself at home, and still have your warranty with O2/Apple if something goes wrong.

I though 90% of buying online is to get the same product cheaper?

And yes I have an iphone 3G (2nd gen) and its one of the best things I have ever bought.
I'm just trying to offer some consumer advice here.
