Throttle sticking (even ater cleaning)

    Hi
    Thanks for viewing.

    Daewoo Lanos 99 1.4

    Symptom:
Accelerator pedal sticking at initial push especially when taking off from stopped position at traffic lights.
With car parked is neutral in driveway, and idling ok at 1000 revs, there is not a problem with pressing the accelerator until, that is, the engine is given a high rev of up to 4000 revs (going to 2000revs for example doesn’t seem to cause the sticking). After the high rev there is a sticking but generally ok then until you come to a stop (leaving foot off pedal) and taking off again.
To reiterate it doesn’t look like it is sticking from lack of grease or anything as mostly it has a free motion. It is only after a high rev, leave off and pressing again will it have the sticking problem.

    Work Done so far:
Thoroughly cleaned throttle body (and butterfly valve)and IAC valve with carb cleaner and some WD40 as per
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055807391&highlight=throttle
    and
    http://jasongraphix.com/journal/gas-pedal-sticking/
    and
    http://www.daewooclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?tid=5228&highlight=throttle

(was dirty enough but not extraordinarily so and in fairness it probably has improved things but not enough)

Also greased up cable going to throttle, cleaned out air intake tube and replaced air filter.
Also replaced spark plugs and oil/oil filter which was needed for general performance – had been a while . Car is idling, ticking over ok just below 1000 revs – no issues there.

    Question to Board members:
Any further ideas on why, even after cleaning, there seems to be a sticking especially after high revs or taking off again from a stopped position after a short drive?

    Thanks
    Patrick

Daewoo've been raiding the Toyota parts-bin it seems....

Check your throttle cables (If you car has them and isn't just drive-by-wire)

Replace the cable. They dont need lubricating so it wont help.

Thanks for the cable advice. (yes it is the traditional mechanical accelerator attached to cable style)

However, does it make sense that I can go into the car and without starting the engine the accelerator moves freely. Its only after the revs go high (3-4k rpm), leave off and accelerate again do I get this sticking condition.

If it was the cable I would expect it to be sticking all the time?
