car making strange noise when reversing

    hi
    i drive a honda accord euro r.
    recently when im reversing i get a whining noise from the aft left hand wheel area. NOTE:ONLY WHEN REVERSING,giving it a bit of left hand turn.its quite loud and rather embarrasing.however when reversing in a straight line or driving forwards the car is fine.until today that is,the engine check light came on today.

    are they related or an unlucky co-incidence.
    any one have experience of this

    Its whines because its a straight cut gear (reverse). As far as i know, all modern cars have this, but it is louder on some cars more than others.

    It could be something else, but i would think thats what the noise is from.

    ive had the car 3 years this may. id have noticed this noise before.this is clearly a problem.my family can hear it inside the house when im reversing into the drive way
