    hey all,

just wondering if there's any point travelling to Thailand and laos in the rainey season?... thinking of going in july and dont know too much really about the weather... i know it will be rainy season but just wondering how severe it gets... i heard it sometimes may not be possible to get to the islands in the bad weather... also heard a lot of roads around laos become impassable....
just wondering if anyone has been there in that season and what they thought..

    cheers

hey, I've been to Thailand in May and July, and Laos in June and it wasn't a problem at all. Had few bits of rain in Thailand, not much, and few seriously heavy showers in Laos but none lasted that long and almost all were at night, didn't impede travel in any way tbh, though we may have been lucky! I'm planning headin back this summer too.

    BBC give average conditions,

They agree in Thailand not so bad, quite a lot of rain in Laos, but as I say, it tends to fall in short heavy falls, as opposed to spitting all bloody day long like here! :)

Non-issue in any part of South East Asia, USUALLY.

Not enough to stop you going at any particular time of year anyway.

good to hear... i would just be worried that getting too and from islands may be difficult in this season....
i read in some travel guides that the roads in Laos can be very bad also...

The roads in Laos are much better now. I travelled in Laos a few months ago. Great bus services and decent roads. Most trips would involve a night bus. On these you get a comfy enough bed and even get a bit of food and water. Rice and stuff. Great value.
