Want to replace receiver on motorised setup

    Hi folks
I want to repalce the receiver from an old Goldvsion FTA surprise to something a bit newer.
If I replace the receiver, how do I get it all working again with the V-BOX II motor controller? If I leave the dish pointing on say Nilesat 7w will the receiver "know" where other sats are?

Forgive my total ignorance about these matters.
    Thanks for any tips.

No, the receiver has no way of knowing where the dish/vbox is pointing at.

You're probably best off resetting the vbox and starting from scratch. If you write down the counts on the vbox for each of the sats before resetting, it'll make it easier to find them the second time around. If you start from a known sat, and work progressively east or west from sat to sat, they are fairly easy to find, as you always have a home position to go to back to if necessary.

Thanks a lot Apogee, I'll have a good dig at the link you sent.
The missus loves a bit of TV in the evening and if there is any interuption to service I'll be in the doghouse ... big time!
So I'll have to make this a smooth transition ;)

So far I have seen manhattan plaza xt-m , xt-cm and TNT are popular here. All are less than 50 euro apart from xt-cm at 110 euro .
Also Golden interstar and S-BOx , but they are doing HDMI / HD stuff and more expensive (equivalent of 350 - 400 euro)
Electronics here are usually fairly dearly priced unfortunately

They are all marked Diseq 1.2 STAB USALS.
    Ta for any advice.

Better write down your Lat and Long before you swap the boxes.

Any of those receivers would be fine. You only need to have Diseqc 1.2 in the receivers as the vbox does not handle stab/usals.

    Hi,
What sats are you trying to see ?

I'm using a WaveFrontier with many LNBs,each lnb fixed on a sat. Then, through a diseqc switch 8 ports coming down to a receiver.Less time to switch between sats, very reliable,no moving parts. The only issue is that the effective dish diameter is around 90-100cm ,so some sats won't be able to see it..

google wavefrontier or i can give a link for a local supplier, check it and see of that does the trick for you !

Lookin to get Fox movies on Nilesat for the missus. Can't seem to add the transponder on the Goldvision. Also hoping to get english language F1 coverage, though I'm not 100% sure where I can get that at my location.
    One of the Astra?

Also the reception during rain is pretty pants, I'm hoping a better receiver and LNB will help there too.

The dish size is the biggest factor for reliable reception during rain. Don't depend on a newer LNB/receiver to solve rain fade. The main thing is to have a sufficient size dish and have it pointed accurately to give you a good rain margin. (though I wouldn't have thought you would be troubled with rain problems that often in your location;))

I was panicking when i saw "Nilesat" mentioned.....then i hyper ventilated and noticed you are in Morocco!

    Hi Rolion,

I'm considering getting a Triax 90cm motorised dish, or else a WaveFrontier 90cm. I really like the idea of no moving parts and fast switching.

What satellites are you pointing to in your location (I'm in Dublin too)?

Can you get Thor 5 at 0.8W?

You'd be surprised! It's quite rainy here, at the moment, I think it rains at least a bit every second day. BTW it can really teem down here. Look what happened in Madeira, we got a bit of that too, though thankfully not as bad. But we had 27C two weekends back, so it's very changeable.

Though in summer that will be a distant memory, might be a summer storm every 2 - 3 months. That works well for my other hobby, clear skies are great for Astronomy :-)

After months of solid rain here in Ireland, February turned out pretty dry and sunny - as has March so far, but boy is it cold!

Well, I done a "test" install of my new Manhattan Plaza XT-M just on the one satellite I wanted to scan first, nilesat 101 7w. I set universal LNB and took the defaults for the rest.

I selected Nilesat 7 and scanned all channels / all transponders, got maybe half what I had before. I plugged back in the Golvision and all back to normal. Is there a typical reason for this... apart from user error :-)

I noticed during the test that the vbox displayed - - - instead of PO5 or whatever, so he obviously needs a relationship with the receiver too., but I don't think that would influence the reception.
I see there is a GBOX 6000 which I could buy local here, they any good?
Just in case I decide/need to replace the Falchu branded VBox II

If you are looping the Manhattan through the vbox, then try connecting it directly to the LNBF instead and see if that makes a difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,817 ✭✭✭Tea drinker

I gave that a lash Apogee, found like an extra 10 channels. I must be missing a couple of transponders.
Hotbird gave me loads of channels when I pre-slewed with the old setup and then scanned with the new receiver, so I guess it's something on the Standard Transponder setup for Nilesat....

Doesn't the Manhattan have a blind or power search facility? That should be able to find almost all current channels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,817 ✭✭✭Tea drinker

    Hi Apogee,
I tried the blind search and found nothing. I had already done a search in V and another in H polarity.
I added the MBC transponder and got no new channels. I was connected straight to the cable, no Vbox in the middle.
Wonder if I should change the Universal LNB settings. the LO low and Hi settings from 9750 and 10600. The sticker on the LNB has long since faded, dunno what it is.

I upgraded the box to latest software, still no Joy on the MBC stuff. Very strange. Should I have power to LNB on H and V ?

Were you previously able to view the MBC channels on the other receiver? Is the LNBF a standard universal type?

Yep, and the old receiver is happily back working now. Don't know about the LNB, there are no markings on it, but it's set as universal in the old receiver. I also tried with Diseq enabled for the LNB, just in case that affected power output, and it made no difference.

I will hopefully have an inverto black ultra in a few weeks, I'll see how she goes. But right now I am puzzled at the performance of the Manhattan, they are very popular. I got it for like 45 euro which is a good price for here.... so maybe they got a dud batch on the cheap :-)
I raised a case with Manhattan-receivers and after an initial recommendation to upgrade they have gone quiet ;-)

But I had a lot of fun trying to get this to work, making serial cables, and had to repair my (new) chinese multimeter which had breaks in the leads leading to some initial unusual readings!

Have you tried entering the transponder details for the MBCs directly into the Manhattan?

If the old receiver finds the channels and the Manhattan can't, even when directly connected, then it would appear that there is something wrong with the Manhattan.
