I'm doing a study on the factors that led to partition in Ireland in 1920/21.

I'm currently attempting to take into account all of the factors that led to partition:

-Unionist opposition to the idea of Home Rule (Solemn League and Covenant, etc).

-Formation of the first Dail in Jan 1919 was a leap towards independence.

-The deflection of the Home Rule question war years of 1914-18 led to a course of action being required on the part of the British government in order to appease Nationalists.

Along with reasons like this, how do other people feel about it?

Who do ye think stood to benefit the most from partition being in place?
