Passport questions

Okay so I'm seventeen but I'll be eighteen in a week. I want to apply for a passport A.S.A.P (so hopefully sent off Monday) so it will be cheaper but there's a few things I'm uncertain about

    1. Before anyone says it, I've left it very late, I know, especially with the industrial action in the passport office. I'm an idiot. If my application gets processed only a few days or so before my birthday or worse, after will my application be denied because I will have turned/will be turning eighteen and now have to apply for a ten year or will it get processed since I applied before my birthday but I'll get a ten year and have to pay an extra €50?

    2. The form says my parents signatures can be witnessed by a member of the clergy but my friend's heard that it's now has to be a Garda. Anyone know if this is true?

    3. Lastly, the bit the Garda have to stamp saying that they are satisfied I am me. I heard somewhere that is must be your local Gardaí. There's two stations I could use easily. Does local just mean the nearest or will either do?

Thanks for your help and please don't start on about leaving it so close to my birthday, I'm pissed off enough at myself as it is.

    1. Honestly no idea I'm afraid! Give them a call? I'd assume you'd be put into the 17 category, and get either the 3 year or 5 year, but I honestly can't say.
    2. Says gardai here http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=258
    3. I just picked the one that was near to me on the way to town, once it's local enough I don't imagine it'd be a problem.

    1. I haven't a clue either with this one.
    2. It's easier imo to get it signed by a Garda, just go in with the parents as a guard will have to sign it anyway.
    3. That doesn't matter at all I would say, they won't mind whether or which.

Not true or at the very least I havent heard of it. MIght be better to check with the passport office or their website if it has changed recently. We didnt get any notice about it in our station.

Preferably it is your local station or if that is closed (part-time station) then you can go to your district HQ which would be a 24hr station.
