Hi, does anyone know when Air Lingus start their summer sale. Trying to nab cheap flights to NYC for August, hoping they come down from the €500 pp they are at the moment. Also, if you sign up to the AL newsletter, do you get advance notice of sale? Thanks in advance!

Looking for flights to somewhere in Europe July/Aug so is this sale worth waiting for? is it much cheaper than normal? Do you have to get in quick?

    Thanks for any help

Its mainly amsterdam/france/germany they do sale flights for

once you're flexible with dates and book return from the same airport, you can save loads

Summer Sale, No kidding here, but the Summer Sale may become the sale of Aerlingus. Looks like we are in for industrial action.

Ive heard rumors from a source who has always been reliable, that the government are going to pay the full return air fares (if the airline charges under a specified amount) for anyone staying in Ireland for 2 weeks. To encourage tourism. This will ensure each airline must provide a return fare under the trigger amount or the customer will have to pay it all themselves.
It probably wont be available originating from here though.
Maybe other countries will follow suit and we'll get free flights everywhere.
The Green party are allegedly opposing this.

Just sign up for e-mail alerts on their website. Then they will e-mail you the sale comes.

    Sale has started.

Although it is only an "up to 30% off" to the UK and Europe sale.

The flights I am after are only €15 euro cheaper though..........

As usual, that's up to 30% off the base fare only, NOT the taxes and charges.

Aer Lingus are picking up tricks from Ruinair... :-)

Was hoping for more of a sale than this, even with this sale the prices are dearer than when I checked a few weeks ago

    Hi
I've been tracking these emails for the last 18 months as I have to fly to france 3 - 4 times a year. There should be an improved offer within the next 10 days if they are as consistent as previously & then a final reduction nearer the 40% mark late April. This current sale is a rip off! They are currently reducing by 15% ...& Not 30%!!

But if you wait until late April to book (say a flight in June), then the price will probably go up quite a bit between now and then, possibly cancelling out any increased discount? :(

And d on't forget to use the likes of www.Skyscanner.net to compare prices across all airlines.

It is a flight in June I am after... After reading Moby2101's post I am unsure whether to book my flight in this sale or wait... And if I wait will I fall into the scenario you have posted above... Its a chance one has to take...

    Hi mambo..
Yes & No.. I've already booked flights for April. I booked them on 14th jan when the first Aer Lingus sale of 2010 was rolled out...5 days later they were further reduced by 10%... I've also booked flights for July at a better rate than 2009: April sale will be closest to 40%... will be useful to anyone travelling in August & September.

So if someone is planning on travellin in early June would you reccommend that they book their flights in this sale? Thanks!

    Hi
Good Question! Personally I'd wait unless the availability is limited... when you are in the process of checking dates on AL site if U move your cursor
across the various dates you'll see 5 seats available..3 seats... Etc etc... I need to book flights for September also but I won't book in this current sale as judging by last years offers they will be better reductions later on. This current sale only offers me a 15% reduction and not the advertised 30%. Hope this is helpful?

Availability at the moment is normal. Outbound is €35 and inbound is €15. Total is 129 with only €15 savings... I am prepared to book the flights tonight but after reading your opinion I am unsure what to do...

So I took a chance and booked them last night... Went back in this morning and they were gone up by €10 each... Also one of the outbound flights for that day had gone up by €15 too...

Hope the strike doesnt happen or it could turn out to be a costly holiday.

This is in the back of my mind too, would be a disaster to spend €1000 on flights and then find there is a strike called. Think I will hang on for another while and see what happens with the price (and with the industrial relations) not flying til August anyway.

Going to Venice in the summer, and would really prefer to book Aer Lingus than Ryanair, but the possibility of a strike has me worried

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

The staff have rejected the cost cutting programme and management have announced 230 redundancies

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0309/aerlingus.html

I'll be putting off booking with them until it becomes clearer what the union response will be to this.

I suspect/hope there will be a further sale in the coming months. I flew with Aer Lingus to Milan last September and the flight was about 105 euro return. At the moment, the same flight is about 214 euro return. The one I booked last year was during their sale, and I booked it around May or June I think. I'm hoping to go again this year so I'm waiting till their prices come down.

I'd prefer not to fly with Ryanair to Bergamo but I guess I would consider it if Aer Lingus didn't drop their prices down.

I was planning on booking flights for April to Rome but now not so sure. I wish they'd announce it if they are planning strikes. I'm just nervous of being shafted.

Just heard on the radio (on the promo for Joe Duffy so it muct be true ) that Aer Lingus are re-introducing fuel surcharges and that it will add about €100 on to a round trip to New York. Can't find any info on it on their website or rte.ie so not sure if it's true or not. They are some shower, I nearly always try and fly with another company if I can as I think AL are just a rip off.

AFAIK the fuel surcharges were reintroduced a while back and they are now incorporated into (ie hidden in) their taxes and charges. If you click on the taxes and charges link on the price page it says this

    5. Fuel surcharge
A fuel surcharge is applicable to longhaul flights to/from North America and other long haul destinations from Ireland and other European countries. This surcharge applies per flight, as detailed below, to all passengers.

€40/$60 or equivalent each-way per passenger applies to New York, Boston, Chicago and Orlando.
€55/$80 or equivalent each-way per passenger applies per flight to other long haul destinations.
    The fuel surcharge is non-refundable.

That's been there for a good few months........

You're right Geturgun, seems it was introduced in Dec 2009 and is hidden in with the rest of the taxes and charges. That was very quietly introduced wasn't it? Would love to know the rationale behind this considering oil is well below $100 a barrel.

Wait a second, what "other long-haul destinations" are there? New York, Boston, Chicago and Orlando are the only American destinations served direct from Dublin. Surely they don't charge an extra fuel surcharge for flying with JetBlue or United Airlines?

It actually looks like they do :eek::eek:

Just picked random dates there; going to Chicago 16th - 23rd May, the Taxes & Charges are €99.58 going out and €56.67 coming back

Change the destination to San Francisco and the Taxes & Charges jump to €116.42 going out and €73.51 coming back.

Oh my God, are the really collecting a fuel surcharge for a flight they are not even operating? Unbelievable
